TGS 07: Sony confirms Dual Shock 3

PS3 News | Finally.
In what appears to be one of the worst kept secrets in the industry, Sony has officially confirmed that a rumble enhanced Sixaxis will be released for the PlayStation 3, the controller will be called the Dual Shock 3.

Rumours of a PlayStation 3 rumble controller have been around for months. As early as February Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison commented that rumble was a "last generation" feature. Then Sony kissed and made up with Immersion, the company behind rumble. Sony was forced to deny rumble controllers were on the way, but the rumour kept persisting, so Sony denied it again last month.

Sony Computer Entertainment's president Kaz Hirai officially confirmed the controller during his Tokyo Game Show Keynote Speech. The controller will be available in November in Japan and Autumn in the US and Europe (presumably Australia too). Actual pricing for the controller and release dates are to be decided. There are titles on the TGS show floor which utilise the Dual Shock 3, including Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank.

lolz dumbasses sony.

lolz even more who are actually happy with this announcement; it should have been a given from day 1.

I wonder if we import one from japan would it work on games like uncharted even though the controller isn't due to be released until next year...

I'd say highly likely.

The only reason this wasn't implemented from day one was due to court proceedings. Now that that was out of the way, the fully featured Duel Shock 2 can finally be released.

lolz to idiots who criticise a positive move from a company which has been perceived as arrogant recently.

i agree with jibbs... it should have been there from the start.

to make things worse they deny it the entire time, why couldn't they just say that "yes it will become available in future" when they started working on it. it would have made a lot more people happy if they said something when it was obvious that they were working on it and instead of denying it

It's like the PS3 is really launching next year with the DS3 and Home, and everything upto this point was a $1000 beta test. icon_razz.gif

Hmm, well nice to see official confirmation from Sony at last. I just want to know if they will be having some kind of offer for people who've already bought controllers, I'm feeling rather ripped off right now. I see the price of this new one being the same as the current one, and the current ones will be quickly phased out at a lower price.

Nice would've been nice to have it since November but still good anyway.
