Pre-TGS 07: Dual Shock 3 to make its debut at the Tokyo Game Show

PS3 Rumour | We'll know in just a few short days.
Ever since the Sixaxis debuted last year with the launch of the PlayStation 3 the topic as to whether Sony would introduce a rumble enhanced controller has been a contentious issue. Back in February Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison had commented that the rumble feature, which was taken out of the Sixaxis PlayStation 3 controller was a "last generation feature".

Then back in July Sony denied rumble controllers were on the way and just because the rumour kept persisting Sony denied it again last month. You would think that was pretty irrefutable proof that Sony wasn’t releasing a rumble enhanced Sixaxis but two separate sources are reporting today that the Dual Shock 3 will not only be announced at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, but it will also be on the show floor.

Firstly the 1Up Yours podcast “confirmed” The Dual Shock 3 would appear at TGS and then Pro-G sources confirmed that the latest system development kit sent to developers contains support for the rumble enhanced Sixaxis.

The Tokyo Game Show is on from the 20th of September through to the 23rd of September. PALGN will be live blogging the keynote speech from Sony and if Sony announces the Dual Shock 3 we’ll be sure to let you know.

WANT.

Not at full hardware price though... with Sixaxis at £35, I'd hope this is at most £30, preferably £25. I can see them marketing it as "look at this crazy inclusion!" rather than "sorry about the mistake" and slapping a high price on it.

Yeah, they're kidding themselves if the new controller is going to cost more than the original.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for something more than bog-standard vibration. If that's all it is, I can take it or leave it.

I've actually held off buying a 2nd controller until they added rumble. I just bought one of those usb adapters to plug in my Dual Shock's for multiplayer games.

This is the most important piece of information - what good is the hardware if not supported by the software?

Agreed.

Can we expect delays from MGS4 now?
Since rumble is suppose to be a big part in MGS.

Awesome, awesome news.

Can't wait to have rumble back.

Wonder if they'll release an update enabling rumble in current (select) PS3 games?

I wouldn't think so. I would bet that Kojima Productions would have had access to the technology so they could implement it in their game so when it came out (almost alongside the new controller I might suspect) that the two could be used together.

I do recall hear something about Kojima stating that rumble will be (or should be) a major part of MGS4.

Im gonna be slightly annoyed if they do bring out a new controller, the damn things are worth 80 bucks and I allready have a couple.

Bout time they braught the friggen thing back, i guess it hurts having to walk back with your tail between your legs and admit you were wrong. Just hope its the more enhanced version, and not what we have been using for the last 2 gens.

Steambot Chronicles 2
Kingdom Hearts prequel
and some others.

Didn't listen to the entire preview.

Well each to their own. Personally don't think I'll be playing any of those.

Correct, I was reading up on it the other day, he said that if rumble became available on the PS3 before the game was released, then they would make full use of it. If not, they were planning a new approach.

Anyway, very good news, I look forward to the confirmation by Sony. icon_smile.gif I do hope that they offer some form of compensation to those who have already bought controllers though, being able to trade in your old ones for the new version and paying say $10 or something would be good. I won't be impressed if they suddenly replace the old with the new for the same price, because all of us PS3 owners will have been ripped off.

P.S: Hi! Nice to be back. icon_smile.gif

Back during the GO3 convention, when Hideo Kojima was actually here in Perth (!!!!!) i was told that Kojima had to change the way of the game to implement the introduction of the rumble, as DualShock 3. When the trailers and information came out regarding that with some parts of the game the SIXAXIS' function as a motion sensor could be used, i thought of it as strange.

MGS4 should have the rumble feature and be prepared for it. The game's lines have been completed and the other audio should be done too. The game would be near completed and waiting 'til March is fine but some adjustments may be being done. Such as the rumble.

No. You all knew what you were paying for before you paid for it. People were pissed off when they heard about the DS Lite, PSP Slim and Elite too. You paid for stock standard because you wanted it early. Why should you be treated as special now? They already have your money. If rumble is important to you then you should pay full retail price for what you're getting.

What do you think would happen if you took your 2007 Camry into a Toyota dealership next year and demanded the newer model for a couple of grand?
