Haze confirmed as PS3 exclusive

PS3 News | 360 and PC versions gunned down.
The past few months may have seen the PlayStation 3 hemorrhaging exclusive titles like they were going out of fashion, but sci-fi first-person shooter Haze will now only be appearing on Sony's platform.

Previously, the PC and Xbox 360 editions of the Free Radical-developed shooter were slated to appear one week after the PS3 version made its debut. Now however, publisher Ubisoft has confirmed to GameSpot that only the PlayStation 3 version is still in development. Free Radical's site states as much as well, confirming that Sony has hooked a pretty big fish for its line-up of Holiday 2007 exclusives.

Other PS3 exclusives set for release this year include Heavenly Sword, Lair, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and Warhawk.

Disappointing as I was looking forward to a Free Radical FPS on the PC, where FPS plays best, but I guess it will be one of the few titles that I will now buy for my PS3.

Yep, that's pretty much how I feel. I kind of like having it as a PS3 game to look forward to now, even if its at the expense of the other SKUs. Gotta find the good amongst the bad icon_wink.gif

i didn't even know it was in development for 360 and PC

So if Sony bought the exclusive rights to the game they must think its pretty good. System selling good perhaps?

Im curious as to how much money Sony put down to make this an "exclusive". I doubt Free Radical and Ubi would have done this simply out of the kindness of their own hearts. The 360 and PC markets would have made them good cash, so I wonder how well they were 'compensated'?

Mmph. Care level for me is pretty low on this one. So far many Haze previews haven't sounded all that great, and the gameplay videos look boring.

I agree the gameplay looks boring but the graphics look stupendous on one particular vid on the PS3, I think it must have been played in 1080p.

The story sounds ok too.

Yep, the two things I liked about it too icon_smile.gif, graphics are some of the best of this gen so far, and the story seems intriguing although I expect eventually formulaic (although sometimes, there isn't necessarily a lot wrong with that, but when the gameplay seems lacking..)

Regardless, I do have my fingers crossed because I like Free Radical, and the PS3 needs some good games.

Oh well, if Free Radical wants no-one playing their game, that's their business.

Disappointing, but it hasn't been getting very good reactions from anyone who has seen it so far, so I'm not particularly unhappy.

I love the look of this game and hope it turns out well. Woulda been more fun on PC though.

Great news for Sony! Good on them. I dont think it will hurt 360 much... but with a few exclusives coming out, ps3 might do some damage hopefully icon_smile.gif

Ha it's funny because it's true.

To be honest I've been interested in this but only because it looks like it's on the verge of being something special it's just not quite there yet, hopefully it's a surprise hit and not just another generic shooter.

Ahem. You seem to be forgetting that Sony don’t resort to such “underhanded” tactics. Tsk, tsk, Sony are part of something far greater than this devious thing we all know as “business”, unless of course the bid is to their liking, in which case it’s considered a smart business move.

Either way, I also wasn’t too impressed with what I’ve seen from the game. I don’t think it was too much of a hard decision for the developers - especially with additional incentive from unnamed sources - considering the sheer amount of competition currently, and in the near future, available on both 360 and PC. Developers gotta do what they gotta do to stay alive, so I hope this pays off for them, because they will definitely be losing a good chunk of sales taking this path.

No what the PS3 needs is a Time-Splitters exclusive icon_cool.gif

I really do hope that the game works out for Free Radical. From their origins in Rare developing Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, through to Timesplitters... they know their sh*t when it comes to FPS. I have only seen an early promo last year and haven't witnessed any gameplay footage, but from all reports coming in, I wonder what's holding back their prowess in Haze?

AAAAAAAAARGH

That's horrible. I hate Sony, I will not forgive this.

EDIT: just kidding, it's just that I love the idea and philosophy behind Haze and I really, really think it should be multiplatform. It's a paradigm shift in the gaming industry to where developers are taking responsibility for the values that they propogate through their games.

If it stays a PS3 exclusive, I will be tempted to take out a $1000 loan...

yeah my reaction completely, but this game just doesn't appeal to me atm. I'm over ww2 and futuristic games for the moment.

I'm going to go against the tide and say that I'm actually looking forward to this game so it's good news for me.
