LGC 07: Rock Band coming to PAL regions in 2008

PS3 News | PS2 version also coming.
Harmonix has confirmed by way of a press release something we reported last week. Rock Band has been delayed until Early 2008 in PAL regions.

It's not all doom and gloom though, with Harmonix confirming the game will be coming to the PlayStation 2 as well as the platforms previously announced; the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The PAL wait isn't just because Harmonix wanted to keep PAL gamers waiting longer, but because tracks for each territory will be localised, which means Australia will get different tracks to America.

“The European continent’s rich and diverse musical pedigree transcends culture and language, which is why we are extremely pleased to announce Rock Band in Europe for early 2008,” stated Jeff Yapp, EVP, MTV Program Enterprises. “It was imperative that we have significant on-disc and downloadable localized music content for multiple European territories on the PlayStation 2 system, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system in order for Europeans to truly get the full Rock Band experience and interact with the music they love.”

Ten more songs were also revealed. The new songs, all original master recordings, are as follows: Rolling Stones “Gimme Shelter,” Deep Purple "Highway Star," The Clash “Should I Stay or Should I Go,” Faith No More "Epic,” Smashing Pumpkins “Cherub Rock,” Radiohead “Creep,” Beastie Boys “Sabotage,” Jet “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” OK Go “Here It Goes Again,” and Nine Inch Nails “The Hand That Feeds.”

...Localised Tracks? Not Guitar Hero III-itis. Please...

If we get the short end of the stick, seriously... <_<

Please dont ruin us or your game!
It sounds bad and i dont see much reason to have this planned. Why change it?

The release of a Playstation 2 version is a relief as I was worried i'd have to fork out for a 360, but different songs for different regions? Thats a load of BS!

We may speak with a different accent to the yanks but ROCK is a universal language baby!

PS2???!!!

Sure it'll mean I wont have to shell for a new console, but I was really wanting to see this one on Wii. What Kind of an investment will it be buying plastic instruments for a last gen console? For a game i'm already in love with its sure causing me some anguish... I guess thats the way it goes with love though: you're always presented with a tough decision!

The 10 new songs part successfully distracted me. However if the Aus version has no NIN I'll get right back to my fuming rage.

I don't know why everyone's pissed off... nowhere in that article did it say we would be getting less tracks than the US version. If anything it sounds like we're getting the same amount, but with added localised stuff.
Also, F*ck Jet, put some real aussie rock on ie: Powderfinger/AC/DC!

No, it said we're getting different tracks to the US version, which downright sucks. Does this mean we'll be getting Jimmy Barnes as opposed to The Smashing Pumpkins?

If you don't like it, I suppose you can just buy region free?

The PS3 version should be region free, and the 360 one may or may not be, but I'll base my decision on which way to go on whichever has the most tracks I like in it.

Best case scenario, we could see the inclusion of Hoodoo Gurus, Midnight Oil, AC/DC, Something For Kate, Skyhooks and Radio Birdman..

..the reality is Jimmy Barnes, Rogue Traders, The Veronicas and John Farnham

oh well no biggie, i'll just import the US one for the ps3, and then i'll purchase the AUS one. should mean i get 2 sets of different tracks yes?

Needs more Dream Theater.

They should have DLC for different regions if they do this, like an "American Pack" or something.

I'll have to pick up a Guitar Hero or a Rock Band one day, but I barely play real guitar any more that it doesn't seem worth the hassle.

I couldn't agree more. This would definately please everyone. As far as Guitar Hero / Rock Band gameplay goes though, I can definately say that the mechanics of Guitar Hero dont really mimick playing an actual guitar.. its a different feel entirely. I strongly recommend you give it a try sometime.

If the localised tracks are due to overseas licencing being difficult for some bands, and if that's what the hold-up is, I wouldn't get my hopes up about downloading anything we miss from o/s versions.

If this game had the likes of Something For Kate, Karnivool, Cog, Expatriate, Skyhooks, Hoodoo Gurus and Faker. It would be the greatest tracklist ever to grace a rhythm game.

That would be nice, but remember that Harmonix are talking about region, namely that the tracks will be styled to "European" tastes..

Meaning there's a possibility that we might get stuck with a butt load of crap.

Dimmu Borgir, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Children of Bodom, etc? A man can dream.
