PS3 bundle offer ends August 31 in Australia

PS3 News | Will continue in Europe, however.
Sony cut the price of the PlayStation 3 from US$599 to US$499 in early July in the US, a move they hailed as successful, claiming sales doubled in the days following the US$100 drop. At the same time, a new 80GB PS3 model was announced for the original price of US$599 with a copy of Motorstorm thrown in.

It was revealed a few days later that the machine would not be receiving a similar drop in PAL territories, but to compensate, European and Australasian consumers would be receiving a 'starter pack' containing copies of the PS3's two best selling games Resistance: Fall of Man and Motorstorm, as well as a second standard controller.

Well, it now seems this bundle will end in Australia, effective August 31. Sony have confirmed on the official PlayStation website that the 'starter pack' offer will end on August 31st in Australia, and September 30th in New Zealand.

Luckily for European gamers, the offer will remain valid in the northern PAL territories beyond these dates. Speaking with next-gen.biz, a Sony spokesperson said "There is no time limit to the Starter Pack offer in Europe."

I've never really seen a "bundle pack" stick around forever, and you couldn't have expected this one to.

I don't see this as any great loss, sure you get 2 games free, but the console is so damn expensive. I would actually consider the PS3 if there were a few more exclusive games (no point getting a console that only has games for a console I already own), however it is still $1000 and that is still far too expensive. An actual price drop would have been far nicer.
Well, it is a price cut of sorts, after all you're not paying $1000 for the console, are you? You can either look at it is paying for the games and controller and getting big a price drop on the PS3, or as buying a PS3 and getting the games and controller for free. Either way, it's all good.

Sure, it would be nice if they would have a price drop on the stand alone console, but most people would be buying this stuff with their PS3 anyway, so I think they've catered to the majority of the market.

Yeah, I guess. It just leaves no choice. What if I don't want Motorstorm or Resistance or an extra controller? I just still think the $1000 price tag is the biggest thing holding back the PS3. It would have been wiser in my opinion, if they intend on raising the sales of the PS3, to cut the price somewhat. However I can see their reasoning, price cuts are permanent, bundle packs, as we have all learned, are not.

I wouldn't worry too much, I dare say there'll be another bundle pack of some description coming into Christmas...

^if you do not wan't any other games or controllers then don't buy a bundle instead opt for the premium pack.

but as well this bundle is going to expire at the end of the month, i'm just curious to see whether they will release a new bundle or bring out the 80GB model, very odd.

Oh.... I didn't realise you got the "core" (sorry, I don't know the name of the PS3 alternative) system with this pack. I thought you got the "premium" pack.

^you must be confusing us with the 360 since Playstation doesn't manufacture the core system anymore.
