Next-gen Red Faction in the works

PS3 News | More details please THQ.
At a recent conference, THQ CEO Brian Farrell revealed that the company is working on a new Red Faction game. Unfortunately, that's about all that was revealed about the game, so we'll have to wait a bit longer to find out exactly which consoles it's coming to.

Also at the conference, THQ talked up the marketing strategies that they'd previously discussed at E3 for the new financial year, boasted that Ratatouille (based on the film of the same name) had already shipped over 1 million units, and confirmed that Chris Benoit will be removed from the next Smackdown vs. Raw game following his unfortunate death/suicide earlier this year.

i really hope it returns to the series roots from RF1. RF2 had it's moments, but they were decidedly few, and i didn't think the Geo-Mod engine was really given enough room to shine.

Agreed. Although I don't have as positive a view of RF2 as you do; IMO it ruined what should have been a good series and wasn't even worth cost of pirating (ZING!).

I'd like to think that not only will it return to it's roots, but it'll give a real showing of Geo-Mod action for those of us who think the 'You can make dents in the ground... OR you can make small mounds!' showing of Fracture looks a bit naff. Of course, thats nothing but blind optimist talk.

i guess the whole Urban Warfare bit i liked. i've said before that i really like games set in War-time that feel authentic to a battlefield, and RF2 was one of the earlier games i felt this. mind you, i haven't played it since then, so there's every chance it feels naff compared to some more recent warfield games.

what i'd really like to see for a Geo-Mod 2 engine, is where the debris from the destruction is somewhat persistent. it would be cool for Multiplayer games too, where destroying the roof could be a valid offense, causing damage from falling rock.

Next gen RF would be so f**king awesome!

Let's hope it's like RF1 and not that RF2 game.

That is an excellent idea, and something I very much hope they incorporate. Looking back to the first two, I'm rather surprised that it wasn't a feature from the beginning.

What I'd really want out of an upgraded Geo-Mod engine (alongside that) is the ability to deform and destroy more materials than simply rock. I want to twist, warp, and blast through metal. I want to crack, splinter, and (most importantly) burn wood. I want environmental destruction on a large scale, not something that is limited to one or two similar types of material.

Hopefully the series can redeem itself, I like to pretend that RF2 never existed.

I actually enjoyed both games but it was at a time I was just getting into FPS and I hadn't had my Ps2 for long so didn't really have much to gauge it against.

If it's got environmental destruction atleast on par with Stranglehold then i'll be happy. Environmental destruction is like my most wanted feature of next-gen games.

It'll have its work cut out for it given how good Fracture is looking. I was a HUGE fan of RF1, but considering RF2 and Fracture, I struggle to care.

That's a great idea and they should definitely implement it into the game.If you remember, in the first one if you broke glass that was above you and it fell on you it would damage you, so I don't see why they wouldn't do that in game on consoles as powerful as we have now.
