Sony denies Sixaxis rumble

PS3 News | Now you see it, now you don't.
Quashing the hopes of many, Sony has officially tempered any expectations about the introduction of rumble functionality back into the PlayStation controller.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, a Sony America representative said, "The SCEA employee referenced in Kotaku's story stated that he had read in the news that third parties are working on a controller with rumble for PS3. His comments were taken out of context."

He then added, "Sony has made no announcements about rumble and PS3."

While not quite a denial that rumble won't be back for the PlayStation 3, Sony clearly doesn't want consumers to get ahead of themselves. Jack Tretton, SCEA President and CEO, has said previously that now that the lawsuit with Immersion has been settled, rumble is something that could happen "down the road".

They did the same thing with the redesigned PSP, so basically its in development but they wont announce it yet, good one sony icon_rolleyes.gif

So the lawsuit they settled with immersion has nothing to do with implementing it in the PS3 sixaxis control?

Also those dongles that you can buy that allow PS2 controls to be used on a PS3,does the rumble work in PS3 games with it?

^i would'nt think so seeing how ps3 games at the current time won't have any code which would support Rumble.

But having a ps2 controller connected to the ps3, i wonder if ps2 games would take affect to the rumble in the ps2 controller.

yea rumble works on ps2 games as long as you have a rumble compaiable controller, but obviously rumple doesn't work on ps3 games either way because those games aren't programmed to support rumble.

This really sux, I want rumble on the controllers and i'm not buying another one till it's available.....and then we have to wait till developers actually start implementing it in their games. Ps3 controllers feel dead without the rumble, other than that the controller is great and I actually prefer using it to the 360 one (it's so light and easy to hold).

I remember reading on here somewhere that either there was/is an update that enabled the rumble in PS3 games whether it be for a driving wheel or something I can't remember. (was a while back, might have been force feedback)

You should also definitely be able to have PS2 games with rumble via that dongle on the PS3 but because it is on the PS3 because of the debacle with immersion I wonder what the deal is.

I'd imagine it'd pop out of no-where though maybe (rumblesixaxis) like the previously denied PSP lite?

Sony would be stupid not to put the rumble back into the controller. Alot of people seem pretty happy they were gonna put it back.

darn, I would have really liked to see rumble implemented.

This is so obvious what they are doing. Saving anything "Official" for TGS.

If not, then that really sucks, but I'd be willing to put money on the fact that TGS we will hear something official from Sony HQ.

same i'm waiting for TGS, if they don't announce it then i'm gonna go break someone elses ps3 >.>

i think the reason there denying it, is because if they announce it would not till next year and will get pissed off if you know what i mean

and wHEN IS THE TOKYO GAME SHOW

TGS is the 21st September from what I remember.

And yeah, by denying the rumbling controller, they have pretty much confirmed its existence after the PSP Slim fiasco.

Denying it will give a poorer public image as they lie, but will guarantee greater initial profits from those who choose to buy more controllers up until the new one releases, then buy them over again.

Rumble will happen for the PS3. I know. And it won't happen for the sixaxis. IT WOULD BE THE DUALSHOCK3. Tremble before its might .......

Force Feedback with the Logitech steering wheel works the GT HD. So when you play GT HD it actually feels a bit like a car... not an elephant on a skating ring.

As much as people keep going back to when Sony referred to rumble as a "last-gen" feature, it's exactly how I feel - been there and done that. I don't even notice whether a game has vibration turned on or not. I've been desensitized to it.

If Sony don't use a more advanced form of force feedback (e.g. the "Touch Sense" technology PSM said they were going to implement), then I couldn't care less. A controller that used a more advanced form of vibration technology, I'd buy the day it came out. Bog-standard rumble? Meh. Maybe some day when I want a second controller.

Either way, Sony really should make up their minds what they're doing. I know a lot of people are holding out on buying secondary controllers because of this.

The lawsuit with Immersion wasn't for nothing. The rumble will come sooner or later and everybody knows it...

These guys probably have inventory issues. They need to take a dump of two million "old" console configs & old style sixaxises in China first.

I'd also imagine this is a ploy for people to still buy the sixaxis control as opposed to waiting out for the rumble3 or whatever next gen version of it.

This business is all about maximum profit.

People that have invested in multiple controllers would be pissed if there was such a controller on its way

PLEASE SONY!!!
Find it in your heart, make the controller shake in my game-loving hands again, if you don't put it in, you have lost a potential PS3 buyer.
Normally that works, if not then maybe this will help their decision, I might go and get an Xbox 360 or a Wii.

P.S Rumble NEEDED urgently! icon_smile.gif
