E3 2007: Killzone 2 screens and info

PS3 News | Drool...
Sony Computer Entertainment has just unveiled new details and screens of the highly-anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive, Killzone 2. The game will take place two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta and will see the ISA take the fight to the enemy's home world of Helghan. The main purpose of the battle is to capture Emperor Visari, the Helghast leader. Taking on the role of Sev, players will lead a squadron of highly trained soldiers and discover the true intentions of the Helghast and stop their new found power source which they plan to utilise to destroy the ISA.

According to a press release, the planet Helghan's atmospheric environment (weather) will play a crucial role in how the game is played and will force players to adapt to new tactics as the environment changes. There will also be an array of new weaponary and vehicles along with older Killzone classics such as the M82-G and StA-52 LA, while enemy AI has been promised to be greatly enhanced.

As one would expect, due to the PlayStation 3's advanced technology, the game's graphics engine has been completely revamp and will include "benchmark visuals" with "smooth character animation, detailed, effect-laden environments, and realtime cutscenes." Sound wise, the game will support 7.1 surround sound with details suggesting that sound effects will be affected if you're indoors or outdoors.

“There have rightly been high expectations for Killzone 2 since we shared the vision for the title back in 2005,” said Phil Harrison, president, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. “Guerrilla have worked hard to focus the power of PlayStation 3 to realize their true vision for the game. With incredible action, drama-fueled gameplay sequences, and a vast array of weapons and vehicles, Killzone 2 defines a new benchmark of our industry.”

Although we're expecting more details to be revealed during Sony's E3 conference in a few hours, Killzone 2 is expected to release sometime in 2008 worldwide. While you wait, you can marvel at some screenshots and artwork below.

I haven't even played the original Killzone but Killzone 2 looks like it should pump up the PS3 sales when released and show those 360 people. I'm a fan of PS3, I might even get this, though I hate war games (Though, Resistance is a really kool one)...

Anyone else seen the HD Trailer yet? Just unbelievable stuff. Gears gives it a run for its money with regards to textures, but the particle effects and general atmosphere of Killzone is just a whole new level from what I've seen. I look forward to shifting some of my time from the great 360 to the PS3 thanks to this.

Hopefully they fixed up all the gameplay from the first one and were set. icon_smile.gif

I'm tempted to mend the friendship; but I've been hurt by your lies before Sony. Where's Dr. Phil when I need him.

Looks great so far. I can't wait to see the inevitable Killzone v Halo v Gears v Resistance flame wars around the internet. I'm gonna go make some popcorn and get comfy.

Can only find it a Gamespot and the downloads there are at 5kb/s. Trailer and demo at E3 were bliss enough on flash files at Standard Def.

Was more hyped about this last night though. Probably the best looking console game (the animations, detail, special effects, background ongoings) but I'm slight tired of war games, especially one's that are in grayscale.

I am looking extremely forward to Ratchet however. Ken's promise of Toy Story graphics finally came true (a gen late, but still true). The colours....so beautiful.

Get it at GamersHell from the iiNet mirror at full speed, its free quota if you're with iiNet too.

The HD trailer is jaw dropping stuff.. I can't believe thats real time! That said, I'm still worried about how its going to play.. but they've got the visuals right at least.
