Hirai promises 380 PS3 titles in next year

PS3 News | 200 software titles, 180 download only games coming.
After a launch period it's quite common for consoles to go through a dry period without a large amount of titles released. According to Reuters Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) President Kazuo Hirai has stated that he believes 380 PlayStation 3 titles will be released by next March.

Hirai elaborated that he expects 200 software titles and 180 download-only titles would be released between now and March. Hirai stated that Sony would be working with game publishers on marketing their titles to ensure more titles are released for the PlayStation 3.

I'm glad it was 180 download titles, 380 is way too much for normal games icon_smile.gif

Why do Sony keep making fake promises.

200 is a ridiculous amount of games between now and March 2008. Of the games i know, i could easily pick 10 that are must haves.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

I'll believe it when i see it. Thats more than one game a day

Hmm maybe if you count the different versions of each region you may come close. I dunno 380 is a huge number of games.

I heard that it's going to be Ridge Racers 8 through to 200. Then Genji 3,4,5,6.

Well I'm happy, 380 PS3 titles is really cool. Especially if you look at it and see that it is 380 PS3 titles within 9 months.

That is almost impossible for them to do (more than a game a day).

Why would anyone in their right mine believe it. Sony seriously take so much ****.

That would unfortunately still leave them four short of 200, let alone the download only titles icon_lol.gif

Out of the '380 games' probably only 20 will be released...

hmmm keep in mind that not all japanese games make it to western shores, the question we have to ask is how many of these games are 'we' going to see in the end result.

i'm glad that sony has made a goal for itself, lets hope that they can pull through and give us some new games to play instead of sequels.

I don't think any region alone would get this amount of games. It doesn't make sense for the PS3 to have this, unless we're going to receive mini game 1 - 100 or 30 different releases of eye toy, buzz and Singstar...

*lump me in the hard to believe it's going happen group*

Ouch... that is one heck of an over crowded field of 380 competing products fighting to get back development & marketing costs on a platform that has little market size. Some businesses are going to be in seriously bad shape before March next year. This is a dumb target to put out there.

A better announcement would have been details on 50 high quality high def game releases and a steep cut to console cost in order to quadruple penetration before March. Then add to this announcement a $70 optional motion & position sensing TV remote-like controller for playing a new series of simplified (PS2 1.5 level) party games that will sell for just $9.95. icon_razz.gif

There's that 'p' word again...

A year is a long time. I'm sure they can scrounge up a decent amount of titles within that period, maybe not 380 but a standard amount.

Not sure why you really need to put a numerical value to it. All he really needed to say was that there'll be a steady flow of games for the PS3 over the following year and that they're going to be great. Keep the Marketspeak simple and risk free. No need for specifics. You're only going to get called out when you don't hit that milestone.

I dunno why the word 'promise' has been brought up. icon_confused.gif It's not quoted in this article, or the Reuters one, they just say he expects 380 games. His expectations != fact, and are most probably wildly over-optimistic.

well u just need to look at how many ps2 games there are to see that it is possible, but alot will be japenese and or crap games, just as long as there is plenty of good ones aswelll i will stay happy
