Haze exclusive to the PlayStation 3 by one week?

PS3 Rumour | Ubisoft dates titles
Ubisoft has today dated some of their upcoming titles for Quarter 4, the most noteworthy title to get dated is the Xbox 360 and PC version of Haze.

According to Eurogamer, Haze for the PlayStation 3 will be available in Europe on November the 23rd, meanwhile the PC and Xbox 360 versions will come shortly after on November the 30th. Another noteworthy omission from the release list is Tom Clancy's EndWar, which doesn't appear to have a release date at the moment. The full set of UK release dates for Ubisoft's titles are as follows:

September:
  • Dark Messiah: Elements - 7th September (Xbox 360)
  • Settlers VI - 7th September (PC)
  • Brothers In Arms: Double Time - 21st September (Wii)

    October:
  • Naruto: Rise of a Ninja - 19th October (Xbox 360)

    November:
  • Assassin's Creed - 9th November (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
  • Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway - 16th November (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
  • Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 - 16th November (Wii, DS)
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction - 16th November (PC, Xbox 360)

Ubisoft Australia wasn't able to confirm these dates for PALGN. They were able to confirm that the PlayStation 3 version of Haze is the lead development platform, Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game are unconfirmed.

That's ridiculous, I wonder how much they paid for such an exclusivity? Still atleast it's one PS3 game that comes out before the 360 even if they paid for something like this. Personally I would rather multiplatform games all come out at the same time so I can read reviews and get the superior version.....I couldn't care less if it's for Ps3 or 360 I just want the version that's best optimised.

Damned right. At least, with only a week between releases, the reviews won't be far apart.

So was this actually officially a PS3 'exclusive' at some point, or is that just the wording of the article? Because that's got to be the weakest excuse for 'exclusivity' that I've seen if it was official.

Yea man, like a couple of weeks ago there was an article on Palgn on how this was a Ps3 exclusive with 360 and PC release dates undecided....but it turns out they've been developing the 360 version and PC version all along. Kinda underhanded cuz I actually thought the Ps3 version was the only platform being developed for and the 360/Pc versions would be ports. I really should've known better seeing as it's Ubisoft. In any case my anticipation for this multiplatform crap has gone way wayyyy down.

Like 'Nectar' is such an original concept anyways! Umm ever heard of berserk mode or bullet time? Yea well same crap except in Haze you get to completely lose control of your character! Joy! icon_rolleyes.gif

It's not the developers fault, they need to make money for their invested millions of dollars. Simply put, the PS3 has not sold enough units to make it viable for a single platform game as of yet.

Ubisoft's multiplatform efforts are normally OK though, the graphics etc are pretty good across the board.

In any case, I'll still always go the 360 verison of any game bar a grossly inferior verison due to the achievements, established friendslists and online network. PS3 is just so dull compared to the 360 offering when comparing alike games. It feels like your playing a game in isolation.

This may change if Sony get their crap together and get a good online system going with some sort of reward program (which, if you watch the gametrailers interview from a few days ago, they assure us is on the way).

We're still trying to confirm this and Ubisoft Australia gave us a no comment so i've changed it to a rumour.

Ubisoft did confirm for us Haze is a "PS3 lead development, X360 and PC versions are not confirmed"

Exactly how I prefer it. I don't need to know what someone else is doing online and I don't need to be talking to them while playing a game unless the game is boring or not very immersiuve (which sux).

Also the Ps3 version is a Blu-Ray disk meaning the disc is much less prone to scratching/damage/fingerprints. Not to mention the fact that I don't need to renew some stupid online subscription if I ever wanna just jump on and play some multiplayer.

The Ps3's online and chat support will improve....untill then it doesn't bother me either way.

Oh yea....also a lot less lag when playing Ps3 games online comapred to 360 and I don't have to worry about my machine overheating or just breaking down performing functions it was designed for or even scratching my disks, which is always the fear I have everytime I turn on my 360.

^ Haha, fair enough. Each to their own. icon_smile.gif Although I will admit I do sometimes put myself in a 'appear offline' state when I'm playing a single player game.

I'm not going to get into this again. icon_biggrin.gif

PS - I thought the BD was actually more prone to problems due to the nature of how it is manufactured? I thought that was one of the strenghts of HD-DVD verus BD.

The thing is Haze on 360 will not come on a Hd-Dvd, no 360 game will.

Ever heard of Durabis? Check it..

http://www.durabis.com/en/index.htm

I agree a lot of it does come down to personal preference but the free online component and blu-ray format imo give the Ps3 an edge cuz I don't really care about achievements (although they are fun...I just hate the gamerscore part), but I can definately see how some one would prefer the 360 version cuz of the achievements aswell as the better intergrated online aspect of the 360 version....even if it does cost. So yea each to their own.....but in 5 years time when the next gen has rolled about and you wanna throw on some Haze multiplayer for old times sake and find out you need to renew your Xbox Live subscription which has recently been superceeded by Xbox Live Ver 2, don't say uGh didn't warn ya! icon_wink.gif

Haha, I doubt I'll unsubscribe to Live anytime soon icon_smile.gif I signed up for it way back when the Xbox came out, so I'm fine with paying $80 for the service. When I think about how many hours I've spent online, I'm pretty sure I've gotten more then my money's worth.

I will be interested to see how Sony keep their online network to nothing in the future. Supporting home will be a massive project internally for them, but I guess they are banking on micro-transactions to get them through. But unless though drop that price for the unit, I can't see them making any money anytime soon. They are in a pretty tough position right now.

I'd seriously have more love for the PS3 if they released some bloody games on it. I'm seriously swamped on the 360 atm with great gaming content with a few side games I'm playing on the Wii. Hopefully NG:Sigma will blow my socks off.

Hmm, nice exclusive icon_lol.gif
Though while lot's of games are going multi-platform PS3 still have key few games which as of now are leading me to buy one like this Christmas or something.

And what the **** is it with another Splinter Cell game out so soon after DA?

^ Yea I agree, it's the reason i'm so wary of Ubisoft's games now....they just get churned out like there's no tomorrow. I dunno....just seems like the passion is gone cuz I used to have a lot of respect for Ubisoft whereas now I have none. What's the bet that as soon as Splinter Cell: Conviction comes out we'll see trilers of part 6? I'm surprised they don't just have a preview video for the next game at the end of each one.

Yea but like I said once Xbox Live Ver 2 comes out for Xbox 720 or whatever then as if you're gonna renew a subsciption for a previous gen's console and it's online service etc, although by then it could be free aswell as the PS Network actually costing....although the Ps2 network remained free the whole time so I don't really see it costing, not anytime soon anyways.

True, but you'd have to say like the Xbox -> Xbox 360 it will just continue to be the same service. And it's nice that I can use my Live account on Windows with the same friend's list etc.

The PS2 network was free because there was no network. Anybody creating a online game had to provide their own servers. And then when people stopped playing them they discontinued the service (ie recently they annouced MGS3 online servers are closing down). Hated that model (same as EA still using their own servers) because it means they can pull down the online game support at anytime. That's why I loved Live so much, pretty much guranteed any game will be supported forever.

PSN and Wii netowrk are the same now, so this is no longer a problem.

Ubisoft devewlop the best games and they make at least 10 a year, if not more, and they are usually recieved pretty well. I can't wait for Assassin's Creed...

Nice to see titles coming out on the PS3 before the 360.

How so?

^i remember seeing something on youtube where a guy took a test on hd-dvd/bluray with steel wool/metal brushes etc personally had a hard time watching it due to my tender care towards media. but the point that he was proving that even though with all the damage he did to the bluray/hddvd (btw think hddvd wasn't able to play after the steel wool which was the first method he used) it was still able to play.

so i'm assuming that somehow they've been able to coat the disc in which even though they might have gone through some extreme conditions it will still be playable afterwards.

and speaking about that rot thing, i've never experienced or have heard of this before. but after reading that forum i've only yet to wonder how such things could've existed without my previous acknowledgment while i'm thinking that its due to whether atmosphere conditions. or maybe faulty construction of the disc during production.

Because when Blu-Ray was invented all those years ago, the technology wasn't around to get blue lasers to read data very deep in the disc. So originally if you even touched the surface of a Blu-Ray disc it was ruined. To combat this on it's release in 2001 Blu-Ray discs came with plastic cartridges surrounding them to protect them (like UMDs kinda). However people think these look ugly so didn't buy them, so Sony spend four years coming up with a coating to protect data so the discs could be used "naked", so now the discs can take a fair bit of punishment without damage.
^Firstly apologies all for the abrupt query before, I kinda wanted to be pointed in the right direction as to how these disks differ from the norm with regards to scratch proofing.

I have now done some reading and it seems the most notable coating was developed by TDK rather than Sony, and its application is not a given on any specific disk. See BD#Hard coating or Durabis

Different manufacturers are applying different methods to protect the fragile readable layer(s) within the medium. Meanwhile the promoters of the technologies involved are touting the product as having better fidelity/storage, with greater durability/reliability than the alternatives.

The companies and consortiums that design storage media have been promoting these same features for some time.
