Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 announced

PS3 News | The Wii misses out.
Konami has officially announced via a press release that Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 2, PSP and the Nintendo DS.

One of the key additions to PES 2008 is an adaptive AI system called Teamvision. This means that the AI will learn and adapt according to your style of play. As you're playing the game, the AI will learn new ways to build attacks and to counter specific movements from you.

Set pieces have been improved with full control given over the number of players and the position of the defensive wall. A wide range of set piece options are also available so you can make use of specific talents within the team.

“We have taken a long hard look at what has made the Pro Evolution Soccer series so popular, and where we want to take it next,” commented Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka, creator of the series and Producer of PES 2008. “With the new Teamvision AI system, we truly believe that we have elevated the game to a new level. The movement of players off the ball, coupled with the total control given to the player, creates the closest simulation of real football to date. We really hope everyone enjoys our evolution. I promise it will be worth the wait.” First images for PES 2008 can be found in our media panel.

Can't freaking wait. My PS3 has been begging me for a decent next-gen soccer game to play.

I'm a Pro Evo whore, but I think the series will suffer from the way they've approached next-gen. EA decided to overhaul the graphics engine for FIFA 07, then concentrate on improving the actual game for FIFA 08 once next-gen had settled. Sure, a graphics leap on FIFA 07 may not have returned as much as they hoped, but they'll reap the benefits of that by being able to concentrate on gameplay now. On the other hand, Konami concentrated on how the game plays in PES6, and the result met an indifferent response. Sure, it's not worse, but it's certainly not better than, for example, PES4. Now they have to invest R&D in the graphics, without being able to concentrate enough on the gameplay. Could it be a problem for them?

Either way I don't know if I can go back to playing Fifa after being a pro evo whore for so long...

Its not one or the other - you can speculate all you want - just wait and see the game first.

I believe now with PS3 in the mix, this will be the first true next-gen PES and a significant leap over the other PES.

Btw, you sound like a graphics whore, not a pro evo whore. No-one who plays pro evo gives a stuff about the graphics. I still play pro evo 3 on the PS2.

EDIT: Anyone know when this is coming out?

Also just looking at the pictures I was thinking about what I would like to see in sports games in general.

I think for sports games to take it to the next level of realism, they need to move more realistically. Right now everyone has stiff necks and staring straight ahead.

However you can see glimpses of how Pro Evo is taking this into consideration. The portguese dude on the ground is looking at the ref. Cristiano Ronaldo is looking at the ground dribbling and so on. While its not quite right yet, perhaps its a step in the right direction?

Why no Wii Love? That sucks. Guess i'm settling for FIFA this year. I hate it when there is no competition for EA. I guess they are at least they are trying to push themselves on Wii these days.

Some great news here, it's always a wise choice to play Pro Evo instead of the latest Fifa offering by EA. Can't wait for this to come out.

I too am a massive pro evo whore and the 5th enstallment on the PS2 was an absolute gem. So let me get this straight, September this year? If that is the case crack open the champagne.

5th installment?

I played pro evo 5 on the PC and the game laid way too many tackles for my tastes

I think I rebutted that with my PES4 statement? I don't play my copy of PES6, only PES3 and 4, because the GAMEPLAY, I feel, is not as good.
