Stranglehold dated for Australia

PS3 News | No bonus Blu-Ray though.
Midway has confirmed via a press release that Strangehold will be coming out in Australia on the 6th of September, 2007. The title will be available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at a recommended retail price of $119.95 while the PC version will be available for $99.95 on the same day.

In America, the PlayStation 3 version of the game comes bundled with the Blu-Ray movie, Hard Boiled but Midway has confirmed to PALGN that Australians will unfortunately miss out on the bonus Blu-Ray movie. Stranglehold is a sequel to Hard Boiled and features Chow Yun-Fat as Inspector Tequila again.

That's slack that movie would have been sweet.

Now what reasons do multiple platform owners have to choose the PS3 version?? No rumble, no achievements.

Aw well still looking forward to it. I think Spanca said it best, (in another thread) I'm going to have to defer Uni next semester for all the games coming out.

Right, I was sold on the PS3 version becuase of that bonus movie - Now I'll be picking it up on the 360 instead. Way to kick Aussie gamers in the beanbag, Midway *shakes fist*!

That's BS that we won't get the movie also icon_sad.gif

Looks like I'll give this one a miss then

Just as well PS3 games are region free! (Oh and the movie is on the same disc - its not a seperate disc)

what he said!!

still tough to chose between achievements and hard-boiled considering I've already seen the movie.

I'd rather not take the risk with that - Unless someone can confirm that A) the movie is on the same disc, and B) that it will play without any problems on a PAL console.

Unless that is somehow magically confirmed before it hits, I'll stick to the X360 version and enjoy my rumble/achievements.

BD Movies are not region free, but games are, so more or less I'd expect the game to work but not the movie.

I'll still buy it, but man does that s**t me that we don't get the film.

I agree that it sucks, but I'm pretty sure we can't blame Midway for this lack of Hard-Boiled.

I don't know for sure, but I imagine the problem had to do with distribution rights in Australia - many movies like Hard-Boiled haven't even appeared on Region 4 DVD yet, and so I get the feeling the rights for distribution must be tangled up down here, which would explain not being able to have it on the disc.

That could be totally wrong, but hey, I'd bet it's something like that which is causing the problem - in any case, I wouldn't just jump to conclusions that Midway have just decided to treat us like 'crap'.

No i think you're spot on as Midway seemed very disappointed too.

^ Yea I agree, I had to import my copy of Hard Boiled because it's unavailable in Australia and I reckon Midway not being abe to provide it aswell would have something to do with it.

Unusual because I don't see how it would be any different to any other movie when getting classified.

Infact there are a few good movies like this that i've had to import for silly reasons like this e.g Undefeated 1 & 2 (Wesley Snipes/Ving Rhames for part 1 & Michael Jai White for part 2....if you like fighting movies....check it).

^^ It may not be about classification, but more about some company owning the exclusive rights to distribute the film over here and simply not exercising that right or being unwilling to co-operate with Midway to negotiate. Or perhaps there is a dispute over who has the rights, etc. Very irritating, for sure, if this is indeed what is occurring.

I REALLY want some Woo movies (on DVD or Blu-Ray, instead I have to make do with old VHS, yuck), like The Killer (AWESOME), A Better Tomorrow, and Hard-Boiled.

*Sigh*

hopefully it is on the same disc - after all, blu ray is so freakin huge that it makes sense I guess - and it would be reasonably tough to region code just one section of it, wouldn't it?

So we can import it or not, to get the movie as well?

Pretty slack to still charge $120 with no bonus movie though. Glad to see it is making it to Australia because the box art for it in the JB hifi catelogue had an R rating on it.

Hopefully this will be one of many of the 360 games which rapidly drops in price.

stranglehold looks really kool, good to c its got a release, the movie woodve been good to and yeah its pretty bad to charge $120 for just the game, just lika lota ps3 games, lol they shood put movies with every ps3 game to make it worth it but owell. now, whens skate and tools of destruction comin out?

Totally sweet. I was going to get the game on 360 anyway, but it's disappointing to see the PS3 version get the shaft. Was a great idea of using the extra space on a BD-ROM.
