New GTA IV images revealed

PS3 News | Four new images of IV.
A fresh batch of images from one of the most anticipated games of 2007 have trickled their way down to us folk here at PALGN. The game that eschews contemporary numerical conventions, Grand Theft Auto IV, is due for release in October of this year and is taking the series in what is purportedly a more serious direction. Along with the new narrative course being set by Rockstar, these and the previous insights we've had into the game show that the visual style seems to be running parallel to this vision.

We're sure to come across some more of these treats as the game's release draws nearer, so stay tuned for more as it comes. For now, head over to our media panel, for some GTA-goodness.

This will, hands down, be the best game this year. Narrowly beating god of war 2.

If only it was a PS3 release because then it would have more content.
But anyway, the images look great.

Pretty damn good for a GTA game, not so much in terms of next gen games as a whole... I'm sure I'd change my tune once we finally see some gameplay. Now that I think about it, I don't think Rockstar have ever released gameplay footage of a GTA game. Trailers only IIRC. I've never dwelt on that before... interesting.

^ I know how you feel icon_sad.gif

Didn't Rockstar even admit that the 360 was holding them back? Maybe it was being taken out of context but it goes without saying; multiplatform development is detrimental to overall quality. But hey, that's the age we now live in so no use getting worked up over it. Doesn't mean I'm happy with it though. icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif

Yeup, 360 is holding it back.

Rockstar commented to an official Playstation mag that the 360's use of standard DVDs was a limiting factor in the content they could include.

The 360 and PS3 graphically are pretty well on par, just the added headroom of Blu Ray allows for more varied and higher resolution textures and high def video content.

Either way, GTA IV will be great. The Combination of impressive graphics, which in my opinion are right up there, with the other new introductions to the series make it look to be highly enjoyable.

There's a lot of info on http://gtagaming.com regarding gameplay mechanics and new additions to the game also that are worth checking out.

Very true. In the case of multiplatform games, both platforms weigh each other down.

360 exclusive games = sweet.
PS3 exclusive games = sweet.
Multiplatform games = average.
And that's in every facet, from graphics to polish.

Which platform offers the sweeter exclusive games is up for debate, however BOTH consoles hurt each other during multiplatform developing as developers work with the highest common denominator of the two.

Why would they release a picture with 6 identical convertibles in it? The old PS2 games had that problem, surely they'd want us to believe they'd fixed it.

*sigh*, and again with PALGN's taking that GTA/PS Mag quote out of context. The actual interview said that both platforms had presented difficulties in development as they have different challenges to overcome. The only one that suggested that the 360 alone was hindering development as the Playstation Mag writer who asked the question. Rockstar said nothing of the sort.

Well its looking good, but I have even better news. Looks like there will be a collectors edition release which is supposed to contain the following:

* Collectors Tin
* Backpack
* Pencil Case
* Artwork Book

This was according to EB Games which has 2 different GTA IV's on their system. This was at least on the PS3, I didnt ask about the 360 version.

great pictures, i'll probably go for the colletors edition as well. I remember the article saying that there were problems with both systems, just a lil dissapionted how he didnt go into more detail with both systems

Man I can't believe it's coming out this year! This game is going to be HUGE to say the least. All I want is more detail and more polish.....that's it! I couldn't care less how big these cities are or if they contain boats or planes etc.....all I care about are the cars and the small details.

Also chances are Ps3 will be the system of choice for me. I've always bought the GTA games on the Playstaion 2 because that's what it was developed for, it's where they first debut and it's where the series found it's true calling. Imo it really belongs on the Playstation even though last gen Rockstar managed to port superior versions to the xbox. This time however it seems the Playstation actually has the superior hardware and I hope this is reflected in the Ps3 version.

I read the preview on IGN a couple of days ago and they said it's all about the details and realism this time and quite honestly I couldn't be happier about that. It's always the little details in games that impress me and help me get immersed and GTA is one of the best games in that regard and this proper next-gen iteration I have no doubt will blow people away.

I've always got the GTAs on PC, seeing as I was primarily a PC gamer back when GTA3 hit. When I actually tried them on the PS2 for the first time I laughed and thought "wow, this is broken".

All I really want this time around is for them to leave that joke of a lock-on system in the dust and give us the wonders of free aiming. Still not sure which system I'll grab it on, but I'm leaning towards 360 right now.
6 years ago
Yea but when you're playing the game 6 months to a year before any of the other versions you're not really gonna try out the aiming and go 'wow this is broken' when you've got nothing to compare it to.

I have no doubt the Pc and Xbox versions were superior to the Ps2 versions but by the time those versions came out I couldn't care less cuz i'd played through it already.

I also hope they change the aiming to free aim (ala Saints Row). Rockstar would be idiots not to use this after they've seen it in action and when people have actually expressed their preference over it.
6 years ago
And considering I I had never played GTA on anything but PS2, I wouldn't know any better with the aiming and whatnot.

Pfft, you can see the strings!

Wake me when some proper gameplay screenies surface.

Sure, playing it on the PS2 as a first experience would have been fine - but I didn't, being the PC preferential soul that I was, and therefor found it to be a few steps short of horrid.

And I agree, Rockstar would have to be stark raving insane to not incorporate the free-aiming system that Saints Row used so well.

They've obviously got to cater to the under-15s market who are playing the game illegally icon_wink.gif

Given that I'm sure that makes up for more than 50% of their market (note: not a joke) it actually does make a lot of sense.
