Haze only coming to the PS3 in 2007

PS3 News | Free Radical to take on Bungie?
According to Gamespot, Ubisoft has revealed that the PlayStation 3 is the lead platform for Haze, Free Radical's upcoming shooter.

The game was originally set to be released later in the year for the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 but will now debut only on the PlayStation 3. All fact sheets we've been given by Ubisoft no longer refer to the Xbox 360 or PC versions of Haze either.

When contacted by GameSpot, Ubisoft reps stated "Haze is leading on PS3, but no exclusivity for any platform has been officially announced." It's highly unlikely that Haze will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 indefinitely so we'd expect to see an Xbox 360 version down the line, but if you want to play the game this year, it appears you'll have to invest in a PlayStation 3.

Wow, surprising move from them there! Sounds like Sony might have "persuaded" them to make it a 2007 exclusive (at least, nothing is definite, really, as they said no exclusivity has been announced for any console, but they could announce it), which will be very good for sales of course. The game looks very good, from what I've seen, the trailer is pretty sweet.

Interestingly, on IGN, the release dates are listed like this:

Release Date:
US: Q4 2007
Japan: Unreleased
Europe: September 28, 2007
Australia: Unreleased

Wouldn't they normally have TBC or TBA instead of "unreleased"? Makes it sounds as though it's not going to be released here.

Interesting, I wonder whats behind this move? Is it development issues with the other platforms, or has this perhaps become a timed exclusive after some bargaining/cash incentives from SONY? Either way, PS3 owners are the winners here.
Really looking forward to getting this, pity that it'll be on the platform with the lesser online service. Then again, I'm more of a single player/local multiplayer person anyway icon_smile.gif

I'd argue this means they don't want to take on Bungie. Clearly trying to beat Halo on the 360 in the same month/week is suicide. They probably see it as a better option, and more valuable, to give PS3 owners a big exclusive against Microsoft's Halo. That way, they probably figure it may gain more publicity as a big win for the Sony crowd. Particularly if Halo doesn't live up to expectations and Haze proves to be really good.

Haze will be released in Australia, maybe your number one source of news and information should be PALGN though? icon_wink.gif

icon_lol.gif I guess you've got me there! Well, PALGN generally is, but for trailers and videos I use IGN mostly, so I usually check what they have down for release dates at the time, if PALGN doesn't have them listed. I just found that weird anyway, I haven't seen it before.

Brett: You're probably right about that, it would be a fairly wise move for them, in light of the circumstances. It might just work too.

Aha so I was right (see other Haze thread). So yea Ps3 exclusivity (for the time being). I'm really happy about this actually....and not because it's on Ps3 but because it's an exclusive title for now so chances are they are programming it with one platform in mind and that way they can optimize it better for that one platform.

Awesome stuff Ubisoft! The best news i've heard from your camp in ages.....and of a game i'm actually looking foward to....so heaps awesome.

That does make a lot of sense. Once the Halo craze has died down in early '08, they'd find a much larger market on the 360. I'm looking forward to this game quite a lot! I bought Timesplitters 2 again and it's still awesome.

Rubbish! It's obvious they have not made this exclusively for the PS3, only that it will be out FIRST on the PS3.

Which means it's going to be another port, so they probably made/built it for the 360 first and like someone said, you can't compete with Halo 3 in the same month, so they will release it later for the 360.

But again I stress they have made no reference what so ever to it being made or built for the PS3(You think they would if it was that exclusive!), only that it should be out first on that console.

Any port in the store...

Did you just discredit that it was built from the ground up for the PS3 based on no evidence, then claim it was built from the ground up for the 360 based on no evidence, too?

The fact still is that with the 360 version on hold, the PS3 version will get the attention it deserves and will (hopefully) be better for it.

I gotta say, even tho I have a 360 I'm not all that excited about Halo 3. I played the Beta a little for the first couple of days but I haven't played it for ages now. It's just the same old Halo. This game looks much, much cooler, and far more original. And Free Radical are some of the best devs out there (They made GoldenEye, people! GOLDENEYE!! ) icon_eek.gif

Everybody will buy Halo 3, even if it ends up being Halo 2.5, so I wouldn't release a different FPS in the same month either.
On the PS3 however, it's competing with FEAR and Resistance, so it should do well.
My fear is that a large part of the online community will never leave Halo 3, although it has been nice leaving all the l33t hAx0RZ11!!!!!111 to play Counterstrike and Halo 2 exclusively...

I wont buy Halo 3 icon_wink.gif

Why do you fear that so many people will stay on with Halo 3 online? Isnt that beneficial to enjoying the game?

I personally found that with Halo 2 on Xbox, SOCOM 2 on PS2 and a handful of PC games like Counterstrike, that a lot of really good games didn't really get the chance that they deserved online. I'll admit that was because those games had the best online experience, but I was frustrated when 2 week old games had empty lobbies because everybody on my friends list had gone back to Halo 2. I fear that people will enjoy Halo 3 too much to play anything else online, I like a bit of variety.

Yeah, I understand you on that. I used to play Battlefield 2 alot and later on when Battlefield 2142 came out, alot of people went over to that, regardless of how much sh*t the community had to put up with earlier.

My fingers are crossed for you BovineDeath in the hope that Halo 3 doesn't leave a multiplayer wastepland across the rest of Live.

In all honesty I reckon Gears will end up being the more played game once the initial interest in Halo 3 multiplayer dies down a bit. Okay big call to make considering how long Halo 2 lasted as being one of the most popular games ever (and it still is) but yeah, for some reason I get the feeling/impression that the good majority of us (general gamers) are over the Halo multiplayer.

Now watch as everyone else on Earth disagrees with me. icon_wink.gif
