80GB PlayStation 3 coming to Korea

PS3 News | Yes, we're still stuck with 60GB.
Those of our readers who thought Europe and Australia had to wait long enough for the PlayStation 3 should spare a thought for our Korean friends, who will finally get their console on June 16th. They do get something for the wait though, as the official Sony Korea website has revealed that the PlayStation 3 will launch there with an 80GB hard disk drive. Comparatively, in Australia and Europe the console launched with only a 60GB HDD.

A Sony Computer Entertainment Europe rep has confirmed to Gamesindustryb.biz that the information is true, but the rep told the site that, "At this moment in time, there are no plans to introduce the 80GB version of PlayStation 3 in Europe." Presumably that would include Australia as well. We wouldn't hold our breath for an announcement on the 80GB HDD-equipped consoles making their way to PAL regions just yet, but we wouldn't rule it out completely.

i dont mind, seeing that it only comes with a bigger hdd. anyone that owns a ps3 could just go out and purchase a larger hdd if they need too.

Given that the PS3 uses a standard 2.5" SATA drive there's actually nothing stopping anyone from upgrading to whatever drive size their wallet will accomodate. The process to replace the drive is fairly easy and explained step-by-step in the manuals that come with the console.

If they do release elsewhere, it'll just make the price of the 60 go down all good.

As long as features other than HDD space don't change, the 60G will still be the one I will get, even if a 250GB version is available
