Beautiful Katamari screens debut on official site

PS3 News | Roll up.
What's that coming over the hill, is it a monster? Well no, actually. As a matter of fact, it's some of the first screenshots of forthcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 roll-'em-up, Beautiful Katamari. On Thursday, we reported on how the next instalment in Namco's quirky-as-hell series would feature online play, and maps that dwarfed those seen in previous Katamari games.

Well, although they may not scream "next-gen" (and frankly we wouldn't want them to, given the game's traditional unique look) the screens do live up to that last promise, with one featuring a 7,200-kilometre katamari. More of that please, Namco. You can also go and check out the game's new, official Japanese website, and fumble around blindly like we did, salivating slightly. Unless you know Japanese, of course. In which case we hate you.

Screens look great as always, cant wait to see how bigger we can get with the katamari's. and hopefully a sample of the music which is going to be featured on that game.

OK this is how Katamari is meant to look. I am getting excited indeed about this game. As for music? It would be blasphemy to not include the original "katamari damacy" song in the soundtrack.

Oh and a +7km Katamari means nothing unless you are rolling it from 1m icon_smile.gif

This is proof why people shouldn't moan about it also coming to the wii.The wii could easily pull this off and i'd even bet the mote could provide for some interesting gameplay ideas, especially since like 90% is, essentially, just rolling a ball around.

After seeign those screenshots, I'm seriously going to sart weeping for joy the second a Wii verison gets announced.

to Jibbs: the fact that they measuring that giant Katamari right down to the millimetre makes me think that it did start that small.

Amen to that. The Wii is certainally capable of this stuff. Too much realism would just ruin it, its not meant to look pixel perfect, its not meant to have realistic physics (that would suck) fun and quirky and the Wii remote could very well ad to that.

I have to say the graphics look faithful to the series and I was a bit worried how they would look with just a higher poly count and texture increase, but it looks pretty good.

Oh god I also hope that there is no size increase loading waits and it goes from the millimetres to kilometres, that would be so awesome.

Also it is due out near the end of the year which is double sweet!
Just hope us PAL peepz don't get shafted on it though on the release schedule.

Graphics are teh awesome. Same style, only upped quality.

Exactly what I was after.

I've been playing this all day yesterday, so this is just plain convenient for me. Cheers PALGN!

Looks like the 360 has claimed another Sony exclusive.

I'm still somewhat worried that this will be a 'soulless' remake, to be honest. Yeah, it certainly looks like Katamari... but it wouldn't be hard to copy that art style. Unfortunately we won't be able to tell if the fell is all there until its sitting in our consoles.

Fingers well and truly crossed here.
