Australian PlayStation 3 pre-order numbers exceed 11,000

PS3 News | Units should be in ample supply, though.

A few weeks ago, Kotaku reported on a rumour that Australia would only be getting 11,000 PlayStation 3s come March 23rd. However, Sony Australia's Managing Director Michael Ephraim has now confirmed to Screen Play that this number is incorrect, and that pre-order numbers have already exceeded 11,000.

In regards to the 11,000 unit rumour, Ephraim commented that Sony will "exceed that dramatically," adding that, "Our pre-sales, exceed(s) that number already. Our retailers all know the quantities that they are getting and 95 per cent of our retailers are saying "We're going to go for it and push the hell out of this thing 'cause you've given us the stock. I'm very comfortable having been through three launches that there will be PS3s out there in ample quantity, but we don't know how big the demand is".

Anyway, the pre-orders are going through the roof at our store currently. Our blacktown store was on 71 last Friday and today they're on 94. Ps3 is definitely in high demand and the hype meter's pretty high up.

afer speaking with a few game retailers, i must say i believe sony for the first time in years.

From what i have heard it is going crazy. They will get my 1K but about a month after launch.

I'm glad to see the PS3 is doing well too. The continuation of the company is in our best interests as gamers, as Sony themselves are responsible for many of the best games of the past few years. While I did want to see it more even this generation, it's encouraging to see some positive press finally for what is a phenomenal, albeit expensive, machine.

I dont think that we will see shortages, which works for them coz they can avoid the supply issues we STILL see with the Wii, I think they learned something from Big N, do not underestimate Aussie demand

Even if they import its overpriced and a horrible console.Sony are stupid when it comes to consoles..2 good games...MGS (Which will get ported to 360) and FF series. Thats it. Sony make so many mistakes with this console though, i got no respect for em.

I agree with Brett. I'm happy to see PS3 getting some positive news and plenty of pre-orders, as Sony have been supplying us with some of the best games ever to grace consoles.

That's not trolling its just my opinion..Most people will import a PS3 if they want one..But smart people would wait a year until the good games come out and its a bit cheaper.

Funny how people say things like ,"I'm glad the PS3 is selling/pre-ordering well" as if it is going to go down in a flaming heap or something?
The fact is the Sony brand is huge and appealing to the mainstream that alone will keep them alive.
Although if they keep having blunder after blunder that will be another story further down the track but at this time now there is no way they can divebomb.

As for the pre-orders news... well, Xcs:sIVE said pretty much everything that I'm thinking. If there were news that the PS3 wasn't getting many pre-orders then I'd be surprised. As it is I'm actually a little surprised to see that it's only around the 11,000 mark. Then again, there's still a little while yet.

The launch hasn't come to pass yet, we'll see. As I said earlier, there's no guarantess that all of those preorders will end up being purchases. They are only an indication.
