007 Blu-ray to stir European PS3 buyers

PS3 News | Exclusive to the first 500,000 registrations on PlayStation Network.
Sony has announced that the Blu-ray edition of the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale, will be given away to the first 500,000 European registrations on the PlayStation Network.

In what can be seen as either a timely incentive for early adopters in Europe to dive straight into the HD era -- or a cultural commentary on the difference of movie titles chosen when compared to a similar offer Sony made for the US PS3 launch last November with Talledega Nights -- the giveaway is in any case a welcome, if minor positive in light of the recent backlash the company has seen with delays and price announcements.

As a much-needed reload of a critically flailing franchise, and the most successful Bond film in history yet, Sony is banking that Casino Royale will shake and stir the early PS3 adopters when the console launches on March 23.

The only question that remains then is: what Blu-ray buttering up do the Aussies get, if any? When queried earlier today, Sony weren't sure whether the same deal would apply for Australia.

Yes we do deserve a movie. It should come packaged with the console.

Well, on the PSP you had to register and you got a copy of Spider-Man - in a case I might add. I expect Sony AU will follow suit - and hopefully we get Bond as well!

This is a much better idea than sticking in Talledega Nights. Talladega Nights is turd, I think I laughed about twice. It looked unimpressive too, easily the worst looking HD movie I have. Casino Royale was a very good film however and will probably showcase the picture quality of Blu-ray in ways Talladega Nights could only dream of icon_wink.gif

I don't know who was behind that sh!tty movie but man they tried to push it down everyones throats, and even gave incentives to retailers to take pre-orders.

You have The Tentacle as your avatar, I don't care what you write about, you are a God.

As for 007 Blu-Ray, if it has special features I'd love it, if this aspect is lacking in relation to it's "inferior" counterpart they can shove it where the sun doesn't shine.
