Sony: PS3 still on for March

PS3 News | Company dismisses new speculation over PAL launch.
Sony has yet again found itself swatting down rumours that the European launch of the PlayStation 3 will be delayed. Describing the latest whisperings as, "nothing more than speculation without foundation", SCEE honcho David Reeves informed GamesIndustry.biz that, "We're still on schedule to launch PS3 in March throughout the PAL territories."

Reeves' comments were a direct response to a rumour posted by CVG, with the website claiming it had received information from a "high-placed source" that a September 2007 launch date was now far more likely, due to possible component shortages.

I won't hold my breath. The Xbox 360 was the same.

"We'll release it in early march."

*Feb this year*

"We'll release it in late march."

I highly doubt they'll delay it until September 2007. Although they did do a similar deed with the PSP...

Just to put it into perspective, it would be stupid to account that you are delaying a machine during christmas, it would just fuel the sales of other machines.

That said this is probably over nothing at all so we can't really tell.

If it's March, I have the allocations for Europe and Australia:

Europe:
999 Units.

Australia:
2 Units.

At least they can say "We've shipped more than a thousand consoles to Europe and Australia" now. icon_razz.gif

Yeah, I mean, I can't see how they can catch up to the demand in the US/Japan and serivce Europe and other. I mean, it just doesn't make any sense. September is fine with me, the games look all rubbish anyway from here till March.

Agreed.

That would be suprising, but I'm pretty sure even a knucklehead like sony should gone with a better supplier or supplies now.

What if Sony were to wait until September, but knock $100 or $200 off the price? Sure, its a hell of a wait, but all of a sudden, that "I'll get it when they're cheaper" / "I'll get it when there are some better games" aspect could effectively be eliminated, and, with that much time, Sony could stock effectively and set themselves up for a very, very successful launch.

Of course, they would need to be damn careful, as there would be a hell of laot of people that would not wait another 9 months for the machine, and grab a 360 and/or a Wii before.

Be interesting to see what they do.

I'd buy a Playstation 3, if I had the money. The war cry of the American Playstation fanboys.
I'd buy a Playstation 3, if it ever comes out. The war cry of European Playstation fanboys.

That's me getting my geek on! icon_lol.gif

I was thinking that too - there may be one or two price drops during the delay.

But then, the 'proper' PS3 model would still be $800 - $900AU, and at that point they'd be dealing with a $500 Premium 360 and a $300 Wii.

As if they would drop the price here.

We would have to pay full price for the console and also all the games that had been released in the meantime, including launch titles that could be almost a year old.
