PSOne titles on US PlayStation Store

PS3 News | No Resident Evil or Jumping Flash as far as the eye can see.
PlayStation One titles have officially debuted on the PlayStation 3's online store in North America. If you own a PlayStation 3 and a PSP then you can download the titles (for a price) and play them on your PSP; eventually, you'll also be able to play them on the PlayStation 3, once a new firmware update is released.

The titles to debut on the American store are different from the ones which launched on the Japanese PlayStation version. In the US, the titles available for download include Crash Bandicoot, Cool Boarders, Hot Shots Golf 2, Syphon Filter and Tekken 2. This is probably a good indication as to which titles will be available when the console launches in PAL territories.

The good news is that these titles retail for $5.99 in the US. This makes it cheaper to download a PSOne title from the PlayStation Store than to download a Mega Drive game from the Virtual Console.

That is awesome. Great news for those of us who want to play some of the classics but can't find them anywhere as they are too rare. icon_biggrin.gif

Ohh, Syphon Filter was great fun. How many other games let you taser someone at the top of a building, from street level, until they burst into flames? Not enough, that's for damn sure icon_smile.gif

Is there any indication as to when the PSX downloads will be available over PC? I'd love to get a bit of Syphon Filter tasery action on my PSP.

I love the idea of PSOne on PSP. Especially if they are going to be that cheap (comparatively speaking) when eventually available here in Oz. I mean I STILL do not have a PSP, but I am getting closer to getting one. I intend buying one mostly for playing original PSP games, being able to carry around games like Spyro, Guardian's Crusade etc would be asw0me.

Unfortunately I have no intention of getting a PS3 anytime soon (I am always late in the game for every console) so unless they do allow download via PC it looks like I will be waiting quite a long time until I can do so. officially anyway..

Ohh Crash Bandicoot and Tekken 2. Wouldn't mind them if I got a PS3 which isn't likely to happen for several years icon_smile.gif

Kinda stinks you need a PSP aswell. You should be able to play the games of the PS3 hardrive, or maybe Sony is trying to find some reason for people to buy a PSP.

I thought playing the downloaded PSOne games on PS3 was something SONY intend to implement in the future? like with a firmware update or something? I am a little surprised you can not do it already to be honest. It seems a very strange way to go about things. Maybe the software needed was not ready or something. I mean these first run PS3s actually have PS2 hardware in them which will quietly be removed once the emulation software is ready, yes? So maybe the ability to play downloaded previous generation games will come with that future change as well.
