RUMOUR: PS3 Australian release window revealed

PS3 News | Before the Xbox 360 anniversary?
During our weekly update for release dates this week, we stumbled across an very interesting tidbit of information. Apparently, the dates for five Playstation 3 games have been provided and are set for release in Australia as follows:

28th February 2007 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas
28th February 2007 Blazing Angels Squadrons Of WW2

1st March 2007 Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007
1st March 2007 Need For Speed Carbon
1st March 2007 Fight Night Round 3

Last year, the EA website posted their Xbox 360 launch title dates - 2nd March 2006 - for a short period of time before they were quickly removed. It was only later that the official launch date for the 360 was announced (only to be subsequently delayed a further 3 weeks).

We were provided with the usual speil that "The dates in this release schedule are subject to change at any time. These dates are not set by [us] but are estimates from information supplied by the publishers." Sure enough, a cross reference with the EA website confirms this date. However, whether or not this date actually eventuates for the PS3 is another matter.

Given that the EA titles have already launched in the US, they're no doubt ready to be put into the PAL production line. However, there have been further rumours floating that Rainbow Six Vegas may be further delayed. If indeed the PS3 is released that day, it will beat the Xbox 360 to its first-year Australian anniversary and provide something to look forward to in the first quarter gaming lull. Still, we're not going to hold our breath for this one.

A better question would be, will there be any decent games for the PS3 when it launches here? Is anything scheduled between now and march for the PS3 that is a AAA title?

A great launch title would be GTA 4. Which Rockstar have just started....

I agree, theres got to be atleast 5 great launch titles.
We need the new Ridge Racer! PS3 would sell out!!!

5? How quickly do you finish games? 1 or 2 games would be sufficient, if at least one is long (RPG, Action Adventure, Racing game with lots of tracks, etc.) or has good replay value and/or good online multiplayer.

*Looks at Wii launch games*

This is a list of a few US titles from now until March, but I'd imagine a lot of these games will have similar dates:

December
Fight Night Round 3
flOw

January
Rainbow Six: Vegas

February
Half-Life 2 Package
F.E.A.R
Eye of Judgment
Fatal Inertia
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

March
Stranglehold
Lair
Virtual Fighter 5
Heavenly Sword
Motorstorm
Burnout 5
Virtual Tennis 3
Haze
Mercenaries 2

There's obviously a few titles that probably won't make that timeframe - namely Lair & Mercenaries 2 - but titles such as Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, Half-Life 2 and Haze are likely to be considered 'killer' titles. Then you've got titles such as Resistance and Ridge Racer that already have favourable reviews.

It'll be disappointing to see the PS3 delayed any further than March though. As in I'll go on a murderous rampage if it didn't release in March... icon_smile.gif

To be honest, I can't consider those two "Killer Titles", well for PS3 only anyway although Motorstorm and Heavenly Sword have me fairly interested come launch time.

Mark: Yes, it would be disappointing indeed if it were delayed..perhaps to September? icon_wink.gif

Anyway, if it does come in March, the launch should be decent, with us hopefully getting the still in development titles.

You know too much.

And about the exclusives thing, GTA and RE5 are still going to be considered killer titles for both consoles (X360 & PS3) despite them both being released on both consoles - exclusives are going to be rare with the increase in development costs and the turn around made from releasing exclusives. That's why we're seeing so many multi-platform releases.

That's what I mean though, they are killer titles for both platforms, but nothing that makes me want a PS3 for, especially when I get can get them cheaper (overall) on the 360.

I was hoping it would launch with virtua fighter 5....hopefully the pal release doesn't get pushed too far back from march.

virtua fighter is my main attraction to the ps3. I must say it's good to see the game get released on the successful console (ps2) for once.

I'm very happy the PS3 has been delayed after this. My Wii and 360 will do very nicely up until March, and we can get a (hopefully) more reliable unit, with a stronger line-up of games. By then, hopefully a few more Blu Ray movies will have filtered through as well.

But I'm not getting ahead of myself; this Christmas is most definitely a Wii60 Christmas for me! I'll have plenty of time for PS3 excitement next year.

EDIT: And a next-year release also adds some spice to 2007. With the 360 and Wii out this year, it'd be a bit choking to get the PS3 too, especially as someone who always buys all new consoles. It's nice to be able to space it out, and give ample time to each console on release.

Pretty much, I dont think its worth buying a PS3 at launch plus waiting has got ability to get a price cut for pretty heavy investment. That being said, if PS3 start to lose exclusives to Xbox or Wii, I'm heading that way, there is nothing amazing about ps3 except for its games.

I'll be waiting for a little ways yet. Probably mid 2008. Would like to see a few more *must have* titles released first.

New PC next year.

Xbox 360 will do in the interim (Gears is a Christmas present).

Funnily enough I have been playing my PS2 more of late. Must be Guitar Hero 2 icon_wink.gif. FF XII will be released around the same time too.

I would have thought though that the combination of killer and exclusive is what sells consoles, and both MS and Sony would be pushing hard to get the big releases exclusive to their machine (even if for a limited time). Interesting times for Sony I reckon - MS have shown they have sacks of cash to throw at developers to ensure titles are released on both platforms, and I wonder if they would be willing to pay enough to ensure previously cross-platform games become MS exclusives - or that the games are written for the Xbox360 then ported to PS3 rather than tailored for each console (with the intention of making the Xbox release the definitive version of the game)

On a seperate note, be interesting to see how different Oblivion, Half-Life 2 and F.E.A.R are from their PC releases. Surely the market for the ports would be pretty small given how successful they were on PC and how long they have been out for. Wonder if Half-Life 2 on the PS3 will require a Steam account?

i'm just glad resistance will be available at launch as this might be the only game at launch especially with 40 player multi. It would be nice to have other stuff but a $1000 console is a bit much in itself so i'll refrain from over spending.

Looks like i'll need to look closely at the 360 and ps3 cross platform stuff as of next year as I would obviously like to get the best version.

I've had the money for the PS3 for a few months now (I was ready to buy mine on November 17), but I was getting second thoughts about buying it in March next year. If Heavenly Sword really is an Australian launch game I'll definitely be buying it.

Its funny me too, I dont know, for some reason ps2 been more appealing then most next-gen console games right now.
