SCEA announces PlayStation One pricing

PS3 News | Not badly priced at all.
Sony Computer Entertainment America has revealed the pricing of the PlayStation One titles that will be available to download through the PlayStation Store.

The first set of PlayStaton games will be between US $5.99 and US $10.99. The downloads weigh in at between 140MB and 550MB and must be downloaded to the PlayStation 3 hard drive and then transferred to the PSP. In the future Sony intends to eliminate the need for the PS3, but for now it is a necessity.

The games should be available in the "coming weeks", Sony also didn't confirm which titles would make the launch, but we'd expect titles like Tekken 2 and Jumping Flash to make the cut, considering they are available in Japan now.

This has the potential to be a huge win for Sony, I think. Despite all the **** going on over there, it really looks like they've got the whole PS1-->PS3-->PSP thing going really sweetly. I can't imagine how great it'll be being able to play Final Fantasy VIII on my PSP.

Same for me, and the pricing seems a bit expensive, especially for those who were complaining about the Wii virtual console pricing...

i don't see it as being that expensive. the games do weigh in at about 500MB, unlike the Wii's virtual console which has games at around 2-64MB

Really looking forward to this feature.

Though no one's mentioned it here, I've heard a lot of people querying how you could have games like Final Fantasy VII that take up 3 discs.

I'm of the opinion that (aside from compressing the cutscenes) they could split up the download up into 3 chunks, and then you only transfer one 400-500MB (approx) chunk to your PSP at a time. Who's going to get through FF7 in one sitting on a 4-hour battery charge anyway?

At very least, paying around $15-$20 for portable Resident Evil takes the sting out of paying $60-$70 for the DS version.

This sounds great for those who are still a bit bitter about their PSP purchase. Although you'll need to spend a fortune on SD cards to store all these games. Its not as if you can quickly delete and re-download them like you can Wii VC games.

Memory stick Duo, man. More expensive than SD cards, unless of course you buy card reader for the psp.
