Parts of Killzone PS3 even better than *that* trailer

PS3 News | Phil Harrison talks up Guerrilla shooter.
Remember the infamous Killzone trailer for the PlayStation 3, and the sheer fuss that was kicked up over its validity? Well, Sony Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison reckons that certain elements of the game have actually surpassed what was seen in the stunning footage that Sony showed off at E3 2005.

"With Killzone, the expectation internally and externally is very high," said Harrison to the Sony-sanctioned Three Speech blog, adding that he, "won't show it until it's going to exceed people's expectations. It will be next year before we show it again, but it's coming along very well. The team are working very hard, they know exactly what they have to do and there's no doubt they will achieve it, but there's nothing to be served by something that doesn't satisfy my goals for the project. I can tell you, though, that some elements already exceed the trailer," he concluded.

Words we won't forget in a hurry, Monsieur Harrison.

After seeing RFoM in action recently, I remain highly skeptical.
Sounds like they're really going to put the effort into making this iteration a real attempt at being a 'Halo killer' though, so we'll see if they can bring back the sexy.

If they actually make the game look anywhere near as good as that, I will eat my face. Seriously that looks way too good to be true.

Is there any proprietary engine licensed or even registered for that game?
Would be interesting to see what it is using.Looking from that video it could be the unreal 3 engine modified. As those cityscapes are just as viable on the U3 engine from what I have seen of unreal 3.

^Guerrilla Games of what I know have a rep for developing their own engines, so I doubt it personally.

I thought the trailer was a fake.

I like those graphics, hopefully they live up to that quality in-game! icon_biggrin.gif

Next year? Maybe the game will come out around the same time as Halo 3.

It is a fake, there are interviews around with the people who made it.

There's no way you could believe it, right?

But ****, imagine if he was telling the truth. Just imagine it.

You have to be pretty damned naive to believe that the video is real, especially since it was released in 2005.

But saying that, I pray that they achieve at least close to that.

He's probably just hyping, but we'll see how the game turns out. It's got my interest, I always thought *that* trailer was pretty cool. icon_smile.gif

Actual hardware they had ran at 5 fps I think, they sped it up.

There's no doubt that the trailer looks sweet (except for those flame effects), but can they get a game looking close to it's quality?
Let's hope so, because no matter what you think of the PS3 that would be an impressive achievement - and a damn impressive game to see in motion, too.

Edit: Where did you get that info from, Umbrella? All the reports I read at the time suggested that a team admitted to making the trailer look how they(whomever commisioned it) wanted the game to look. I never read anything reliable about any real engine or game code being in any kind of working state?

It was reported playstation magazine. According to wiki, they are going to try to make the game similar to that trailer, whether thats true or not, is up to the game.

I'm sure it could look that good graphically, that's possible, whether you'll be getting the same fluidity of motion in game is a whole other story. Yet another wait and see scenario.

That doesn't make sense. If you speed something up that's at 5 fps, it'd still going to be 5 fps compressed into a smaller time frame. The between 5 fps and say 30 fps is that the 5 fps doesn't show 25 of those frames. So if you sped 5 fps up to 30 fps you'd be finished six times faster.

Its like an old fashion animation, they drew every scene then too picture of each one, ran it fast to make it moving. So if you had 5fps and recorded in realtime as in 5fps and play the video faster 5 times the original and sync the audio, there's the trailer.

CGI is done by rendering one frame at a time, then later it's put together and run at a certain fps. Makes sense really.

Yea you can find out a little more at:

I'm actually really looking foward to this game (despite not being interested in the first one at all). I think if the devs are hyping this one up so much they would be fools not to deliver on it. Also I like the mythos behind the whole setup.
