Harrison refuses to confirm Euro PS3 launch for March

PS3 News | Gulp.
After recently delivering a pretty honest appraisal of the manufacturing problems facing the PlayStation 3, it seems that Sony bigwig Phil Harrison is still a little unsure as to whether or not Sony will be able to live up to its promise of a European (and one would presume by default an Australian) launch in March 2007. Not that he ruled out a launch next March entirely - far from it - but he did go rather quiet when asked by the UK's Official PlayStation Magazine to confirm the console was going to be delivered on time in Europe.

"Given that all of our previous statements about launching in Europe simultaneously with the US and Japan turned out not to be the case, I would not like to make any definitive statements on that," said Harrison. "It’s not my job to comment on hardware supply issues other than to say some very smart people are working very hard to catch up," he added, not passing the buck at all. "In fact, the ramp up is already starting to happen in supply and output, just obviously too late for us to have launched in Europe at the same time as the US."

So there we have it; neither a confirmation or a denial. Let's hope this isn't the beginning of a process whereby Sony breaks it to us gently.

I am starting to care less and less about the PS3

*shrug*

If it is delayed then I get more time to catch up on 360 and Wii games icon_smile.gif
At this rate it looks like I won't be getting a PS3 in 2007 - and I'm not sure if this botheres me or not.

I plan to get a PS3 in 2008 when MGS4 is *actually* released and games are actually decent (i.e. not just ports).

I HIGHLY doubt Australia will get the PS3 until mid next year regardless.

I'm the same as leon, I'll buy it when some decent games come out for it.
Maybe by then the slimline version will be out.

Geez, I am getting totally put off the PS3. The only thing that can save it now, for me is FFXIII. In any case, I won't be getting one before 2008.

To little to late Sony, my Wii will be here in less than a month, you've missed the boat.

So you'd rather have a wii over the playstation 3.
I know I do at this point in time.

In all fairness the Wii launch titles don't really do anything for me bar Zelda. Wii sports and maybe a couple of other low grade titles look ok, but at least the Wii is cheapish and is has a way different controller. I'm just looking forward to using the damn thing (and of course the 70+ hour zelda adventure!).

My boyfriend is currently in America and looks like he will be until the end of November, so I'm relying on him to test out a PS3 and decide whether or not we're saddened by the wait. We weren't going to get one at launch anyway, not until the end of 2007 at the earliest, because of the cost.

I was planning on buying an Xbox 360 (when I get a job that is) before a PS3 anyway. $1,000 way too much.

Hey you want a free one or did you mean "$1000! Way too much."

The price is the main turn off for the PS3, so I presume Joseph meant, "$1,000, way too much."

I dare say this will be a repeat of the PSP launch, a year late, still with nothing interesting to show for it. I wonder how many import companies will be sued to breaking point 2 years on from now.

Regarding that though, surely consumers have the right to import hardware? As region locks controls consumer access to content they want.

youd have to be a little nervous buying a beta version of PS3 wait a year or two

or should I say alpha

Yep, Alpha at best

Oh Hell. What are the bets that it'll still be $1000 here even if it comes out after a price drop in America?

I really don't see how they can do this and still expect to make a profit. There'll almost certainly be an Xbox 360 price drop before it comes out.

I highly doubt that there will be any kind of significant price drop in the US before the PS3 launches here.
