Sony denies further PS3 delay rumours

PS3 News | For the time being, anyway.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, a Sony spokesperson has stated, "Any reports of a further delay to the launch of the PlayStation 3 in Europe are categorically not true."

This follows reports on Spanish gaming site Meristation claiming that Ken Kutaragi suggested there was the possibility of a stock shortage of PlayStation 3 consoles in Japan and North America that could leave PAL regions with a longer wait for the PlayStation 3 to be released.

"We are still fully committed to a March 2007 launch date," the spokesperson continued. "Ken Kutaragi has not done any media briefings since the Tokyo Game Show, and the story is not true."

At E3 2005, Sony announced that PlayStation 3 would be receiving a worldwide launch in November this year. However, manufacturing problems lead to the recent revelation that PAL territories would have to wait until March 2007.

Sony Australia is yet to comment on further delays for Australia, but we can safely assume that the answer will be the same as Europe.

I think if they get shortages again, they will abandon the NTSC just to say that they have launched worldwide

Surely you mean abandon PAL region, unlikely in any event

Yes, but I'm sure Australia will be the first to be crossed out for delays are on the cards.

Yeah, if they feel like they need more Euro PS3 units, Australia and New Zeland will be given the cut first.

Doesn't bother me. I can't justify a PS3 until Xmas 2007 at the earliest.

It just gives MS a chance to shift more Xbox 360s.

It quite stupid really. There are more people in Europe then USA, but they like to exclude them. Or did I make another stupid comment... how many PS2s sold in Europe and USA. I'm not Knowledgable in that area.
