Kutaragi: Sony "doesn't care" about MS or Ninty

PS3 News | Sony pres making confident sounds.
Everybody's favourite gaming industry rent-a-quote Ken Kutaragi has been at it again, this time telling an industry magazine that Sony "doesn't care" about rivals Nintendo and Microsoft. The Sony president's lack of concern emerged when he was asked by MCV to comment on the possibility of Xbox 360 and Wii overtaking Sony's PlayStation 3. His response - a simple “We don’t care” - is no doubt a measure of Kutaragi's confidence that the PlayStation 3 will once again become market leader in the coming next gen race.

Kutaragi also admitted that problems had been encountered, but that Sony was on top of things. “Right now, [Blu-ray production] is an issue, because we can’t manufacture enough blue laser diodes for our PlayStation 3s," he said. "But we will resolve that."

But, to be perfectly honest, shouldn't we all be at least a bit like that? None of us (or very few) have actually used a Wiimote, so we really don't know if its actually a good control method. But that doesn't stop Nintendo fanboys telling us that the controller will be the best thing sinced sliced bread.
I'm going to the e-games expo in November to see just how the remote handles... if I like it I'll keep the pre-order up, if I don't I'll cancel it.

Same goes for nintendo right?
Yes, it does. However, I think that Nintendo have proven their console much more than Sony has, they've just shown us some pretty graphics, which look like they came from X360. I think people shouldn't just play follow the leader, they should evaluate what a console can offer them, what franchises they like, and what they can afford to pay. They may say "it will cater for all my needs", but I think that there will be a lot of disappointed people if they just follow that strategy..
Actually I'd say Sony has more proof than Nintendo right now. Seeing they're not pushing a totally different control scheme.

How have Nintendo proven anything when the console hasn't been released yet? If anything, the PS3 has proven much more than the Wii at this stage, at least we get to look at pretty graphics.

Sony also have shown wii controller in a ps2 dual shock controller. Wii havent proven anything, except they have different controller and they're getting rich from glorified gamecube which stripped down features than an xbox 1.

Sony has more of an advantage due to the fact that it is standard and not changing anything ( except improving graphics), whereas the Wii has a completely new controller, and humans (as a species) are afraid/wary/suspicious of change.

I'm going to start sounding (actually "reading") like a broken record... Sony needs to address the level of warranty & guarantee's on offer.

Sony has chosen to use high risk - unproven technologies in PS3 and have built a reputation of late for poor QA.

This is their choice & problem to solve - BUT - It is unfair that consumers bare the risks involved. A one year Warranty is totally unsatisfactory.

Sony also needs to provide hard Guarantee's - not "Sony Promisses" as their word and approach to serious issues have not been good of late. The recent settlements of a class action over faulty PS2 DVD drives, Their approach to the recall of exploding batteries, The way they have handled this months court decion over compensation for rootkit effected customers (all customers are equal thanks), and the response time offered to consumers with defective digital camera's (6 months wait is not OK) is not so reassuring .... These guys have a lot of credibilty to make up.

Please please please PALGN get warranty period & terms on the PS3 agenda. Sony needs to provide a firm 3 Year warranty on PS3. We also need details as to how long effected customers will wait for repairs / swap outs.

I don't think so, there a plenty of vids around now that show how well the controller works, and what kinds of game we will be expecting. I want to try it hands on too, of course. All PS3 has is it's power, which is comparable to that of the 360, which we already have.

I would love it if tomorrow Nintendo went out and said "okay, we've realised the Wii and its controller are crap ideas, what we need this generation is more power, so we're gonna make the most powerful console ever". Not because I don't think the Wii is a good idea (I think it is, but Nintendo really should've gave it more power - isn't the lack of power supposed to be so its affordable? Well you f***ed that one up Nintendo), but because I'd love to see the huge amount of backtracking Nintendo fanboys would have to do. "Oh, yeah, power is everything", "With great power, comes great games", "A Controller doesn't make a game", etc, etc.

And that's a bad thing? What they can do with that increased power is awesome, and provides much more to the gaming experience.

Like I said before, the ps3 has a motion sensoring controller too. Well there's plenty of videos that show how well the ps3 works too.

Nothing like the Wii, is it? icon_wink.gif Has anyone actually seen footage of this "motion sensing" capability? I sure haven't.

DIU: As if that would happen. You could say the same for Sony (they're the kind of guys I would expect to do that kind of thing, look at the history of the PS3 controller! What if they suddenly decided they were going to focus on the same premise the Wii has? (though they sort of already have with this motion sensing idea of "theirs")

The keyword is 'proven'. Anyone can simply 'show' something.

Who cares who stole the idea off who, though? Fact is that until I'm proven otherwise, motion sensing controller + high powered console is gonna be better than motion sensing controller + low powered console. Its not exactly rocket science.

Well actually its alot like wii, it works and kinda creative at the same time. Well I dont know about other people I have, and not to mention the controller has already been released before by microsoft and some third party company for ps1 acessories.

Well no offense, if thats true then that would nintendo guilty of stealing small chinese and japanese toy makers ideas of motion sensor toys as well microsoft's.

Well anyway this definantly contradicts your statements about not following the leader and looking at consumer's value. Cause you're definantly not getting that with wii.

We'll see about that, I guess. It's what you do with the capabilities that counts, and I have a sneaking suspicion that Nintendo are going to be more innovative/creative with it. Just a hunch.

The Wii controller is proven, I've watched a few vids which clearly show the Wiimote being used (thanks to IGN), and working very well, which is a big reassurance to me. icon_smile.gif

1: The Wiimote has not been proven yet. Videos only show dips**ts waving the controller around like a retard, and then the screen constantly changes to games like Red Steel. That could've easily been edited. Gimme the controller to try for myself, and maybe then it may be 'proven' to be great.

2: I'm sorry, but Ps3 is not only more powerful than the 360 (don't argue on this, it is and you know it), but it also has some form of motion sensing. It's taking the best of both worlds and combining it. I don't see that as having just power. Plus the thing isn't even out yet! You're defending the Wii when it takes a beating and it's not even out, yet when it comes to the Ps3, it's ALL about negative comments and total bashing. It's really fu**ing annoying to be honest. Yeah and about the Ps3 'copying' everyone else..really, who gives a s**t? Doesn't that benefit us in the end anyway?

Seriously, alot of you need to f***ing grow up and stop being so one sided on stupid things.
