New Virtua Fighter 5 screens jump in the ring

PS3 News | Sega's fight-me-do looking swish in latest shots.
3D brawlers don't come much deeper than Sega's Virtua Fighter titles - it feels like it was only yesterday that Chris was positively salivating all over Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution in his review. He's probably rather eager about Virtua Fighter 5 as well, which - judging by the eighteen PS3 screens released by Sega today - is looking like it'll combine the renowned depth of the series with some damn purdy looks (just look at those fingernail details!).

Check the Media Panel to the right for some eye-popping hi-def shots.

Virtua Fighter. Considering my history with the series and that there's now a PS2 under the roof I should really revisit the series that defined 3D brawlers for me.

The visuals are spectacular and the finger detail is indeed amazing if it doesn't make them look a bit crusty... or sweaty, that Xbox sheen seems to be prevalant, Lion looks like he's been sticking his fingers god knows where. When are we going to see skin that looks less like plastic and is more soft, freckled, perhaps punctuated with the occaisional mole... more alive?

I'm sure it plays gooD though: Punch, Punch, Punch, Flipkick!

Yeah, doesn't look that much better then DOA4. I'm sure in motion it will be fantastic. VF series as never had blow up graphics, always been solid and smooth. Although I am a VF fan, the characters aren't really likable at all. They don't really have any personality.

Well Sarah's personality was stolen by Judgement Six. And Jacky is a loving brother. If you want family tension look at Pai and Lau.

Jeffery McWild has commited his life to hunting the Satan Shark! He's no Ahab admittedly but I'd gladly play his Ishmael - anyone crazy enough to have such a goal has personality enough for me.

Played it a while back in the arcades, it's pretty nice when it's moving. Of course the Japanese tend to wait for silly little white men like me to sit down so they can challenge me and proceed to wipe the floor with my face.
The character movements are amazing, plays basically the same, but the stages are just mind-blowing. Cabinets are all running on superhigh res monitors are the like. Nice, if they can get that pixel perfect to the PS3, its gonna be golden

Man to me it just doesn't look any better! I know technically that it will probably be the most solid/balanced fighter out there (judging from experiences with Virtua Fighter 3/Evo). I actually think the character models look great and a lot less plastic than the dolls found in DOA4. I think the graphics in the backgrounds might be better on DOA4 but overall I think Virtua Fighter 5 looks much much better and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Infact i'm so excited about the ps3....all it's software is shaping up very nicely from the looks of things.

I have to agree. It looks way to shiney, and no recent fighting games have done anything about it. If they want it realistic they should do something about that.

The game needs a story mode... Why won't Sega give the characters a story? >_<

like... how the heck are we meant to deduce that Lau won the first Virtua Fighter tournement???

But the game's japanese, and when it comes to Japanese and their depictions of characters in anime and the like, their hair and skin is absolutely perfect and non-diseased whatsoever. icon_confused.gif

But anyway, IMO this looks way better than DOA4. Tbh I thought DoA4 was terrible looking.
