Need for Speed: Carbon details revealed

PS3 News | Including the first images of the game.
EA have been rather secretive about the next Need for Speed title since a teaser trailer was shown during E3 but they've revealed a little more information today, along with the first images of the game in action.

First off the game will be available for just about every platform in existance including the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, Nintendo DS, Gameboy Advance and the PSP. It's not known if the versions of the game will be different.

The name represents Carbon Canyon, one of the most popular street racing areas in the world. You take the role of one man who joins up with a gang and tries to take over the city. You can customise your ride with a tonne of modifications or put it all on the line.

The screenshots that have been released seem to indicate that the races will only take place at night, which would be a severe disappointment. Here's hoping EA work out how to program night and day into the one Need for Speed title.

imo, it's time to revamp the series again.

street-racing gangs is getting old.

Burnout > NFS.

Sounds like this is gonna be another generic racer; NFSU3 by the looks of those screens. icon_neutral.gif

Carbon canyon? More like carbon copy (of previous NFSU games)

The only thing that would make this good would be if it was like Motor City: Online or for the people that don't know the older games, MCO was bascially the equivalent to Test Drive: Unlimited.

You've exposed my lack of knowledge of this horrific franchise. icon_razz.gif

It had noble origins, if that's the right word for it. NFS 1 was a great racer. NFS2 was, well, crap. NFS3 and 4 were basically the same, with High Stakes being more like 3.5, but the fact that Hot Pursuit was so freakin good it didn't matter. Those two games were the series standouts.

I liked NFS Porshe Unleashed, but it wasn't like the previous titles. Hot Pusuit 2 just made me wish it was like the '98 original. Underground lacked cops, but was decent.

I skipped Underground 2, but the Demo of NFS MW impressed me. The re-introduction of cops was well done, still not as good as Hot Pursuit/High Stakes, but better than HP2/Porshe Unleashed. I think it was much better than the Underground games either way.

Carbon looks to move back into Underground territory, which is a big step back for the series if it is....

True InvivnI there are a lot of fans of NFS Underground, and a lot that didn't enjoy it too. I'm glad they gave it a go and I'm sure many were happy with the results. All of my friends love it.

I myself was not such a fan, although I am of drag racing and doing up cars, I couldn't see the corners in the track, which, I guess, says alot about the TVs I was playing it on at the time.

But anyways, I need to get some sleep, dunno if this post makes sense.

Looks like I am still the only person on this board who enjoys the NFS franchise. Although GTPod is right, Burnout > NFS. icon_wink.gif

I for one am interested in this game. There are apparently 3 cities to race around in which could be awesome (especially if they're designed like Most Wanted's was) and also this Carbon Canyon will be interesting too. At the moment the game seems to be following an Underground path but I do believe we will see both day and night racing in this new title. Meh, even with the trailer it is still far too early to form an opinion of this title. Well, as far as I am concerned anyway.
NFSU 2 was a disappointment but Most Wanted was a major improvement (and is probably the best NFS for me to date) so I'm certainly looking on with interest at this title but I will be weary too...

You're not the only who actually *likes* NFS. Seeing as I've only played the demos, I haven't really gone through the games and thus find that I can still anticpiate the next in the series, unlike many other icon_razz.gif

Although Burnout > NFS is a given.

Reminds me of Initial D / The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, the trailer that's out, although the graphics are nothing spectacular in that yet.
