Soul Calibur IV in development

PS3 News | The soul still burns.
In an interview with Namco-Bandai Cheif Producer Daisuke Uchiyama, Game Daily has revealed that Soul Calibur IV is in development. While the topic of discussion was primarily focused on the two upcoming Dragon Ball Z fighting games, the producer didn't hesitate to comment on existance of either Soul Calibur IV or Tekken 6.

Uchiyama stated that he wanted either the Tekken or Soul Calibur teams to work on a DBZ fighter - but before the merger was complete, the teams were already working on new Tekken and Soul Calibur games.

We've known for a while that Tekken 6 was in the works but this is the first time that we've been enlightened to the status of the next Soul Calibur. It seems that both titles will be skipping the arcades, in favour of a home console debut. Itis not known what console Soul Calibur IV will be appearing on, but there have been rumours suggesting a possible Xbox 360 release.

The rest of the interview is dedicated to Dragon Ball Z, though Uchiyama was coy when it came to the question regarding how Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Budokai 2 will be adapted for the Wii. We'll have more information on these games, as it becomes available to us.

Oh, yeah..Heard rumours they might make an SCIV. I'll be totally looking forward to this, like I did with 3.

XBOX 360?! Hah...since when?! Chances are it'll be Ps3. How many good Namco properties have you seen on the box before?

I can see it going to PS3 as well, personally. Who knows though...

Yea it's not like I know it's definately going to the Ps3....but judging from the relationship Namco and Sony have had in the past.

Unless Microsft has pulled out it's fat cheque book again?!

The only Namco game I even remember seeing on microsft consoles is...Breakdown or something along those lines. This FPS beat em-up type game which was soooo crap!

Bah cant see a 360 release as it just isnt logical,
Namco will go for sony as its user base will more then likely be greater
in Japan, Same reason as Sega want VF5 on PS3, its all about
target audience, But hey ive been known to be wrong in the past.

It depends on how much money sony has paid them... I hope it's not PS3 only, I don't want to buy one for a while icon_sad.gif
Then again I wouldn't want a repeat of the Spawn crap either.

Soul Calibur 2 on the Gamecube outsold the PS2 edition, yet they decided upon the PS2 as the sole home platform for Soul Calibur 3. Being released on the X360 really wouldn't be that surprising if you consider that nugget icon_razz.gif

It's also yet to be seen if Sony's troubles in non-gaming related areas will discourage developers picking up the PS3, because if the entire company dies there'll be no more support for the system. It's a bit of a twist of fate that the X360 will be the safest platform to develop for in that case.

ohh....haha....yea funnily enuff I have Soul Calibur 2 on xbox (made the mistake of not getting GCN version).

I love SoulCalibur but since I don't have a lot of friends nearby where I'm living, I don't get to beat anybody in the game (the game having no online multiplayer). So, I really hope SCIV will have multiplayer online whether it be on the PS3 or X360.

"Soul Calibur 2 on the Gamecube outsold the PS2 edition, yet they decided upon the PS2 as the sole home platform for Soul Calibur 3."

Untrue. The GameCube version was heading in sales within the first year of the game's release only in America. In Europe the PS2 was clearly ahead of both versions, and the PS2 version was slighty ahead of the GameCube version in Japan.

Europe are Sony's number 1 fanbase, and Microsoft has barely even touched it, along with Japan. And considering Europe, as a whole, is larger than America and Australia combined than Sony has nothing to worry about in terms of fanbase.

Why are most people assuming it'll only be a PS3 or only be a 360 game?

I don't see why it couldn't be both.

Of what I've heard, the SC franchise was put on a Sony exclusive contract or something rather. I don't have any sources to claim this as I only heard about it, so take it as a grain of salt.

I still haven't gotten SCIII and this has been announced already? Sheesh.

Good news though, definitely. Hopefully it has an online component of some sort so I can kick all of your ars... okay fine, maybe not. It would still be fun to play you lot though.

Even though SCIII is like platinum price now, I still refuse to move from SC2, mainly because the tweaks made in ScIII on Voldo and Ivy suck. icon_razz.gif

I've been a Soul Blade/Soul Calibur fan for years. In many ways SC3 was a step down from 2. At least it was when you compared the fuzzy graphics on the PS2 to the crisp graphics of SC2 on GC or XB. I did like the character creator though, even if it was a bit rough around the edges. Chronicles of Swords was a bit crap though. I hope they fix that. Can't say the tweeks to Ivy or Talim were so good either.

Really hoping the new version will be cross platform.

I feel the Voldo tweak pain..However, I just use Kilik/Cervantes/Siegfried instead now.
