E3 2006: Gran Turismo HD images

PS3 News | Twelve times the visual quality of Gran Turismo 4.
What good would a Sony presentation be without some information or a display of Gran Turismo? Well, not a lot, thinks Sony, so in its recent press conference, the company mentioned that Gran Turismo HD will be playable on the showfloor in just a few days.

Gran Turismo HD doesn't actually represent an official title, but rather is a technical demo that demonstrates the visual prowess of the PlayStation 3. Gran Turismo HD has been prepared in full HD resolution (i.e; 1920 x 1080p), and is displayed at a refresh rate of 60 frames per second. Comparatively, the visual quality in Gran Turismo HD is twelve times higher than Gran Turismo 4 on the PlayStation 2.

We've included some hi-res images of the game in our Media Panel, whilst our lucky staff members James and Lahiru will have an opportunity to play the game shortly. Expect a hands-on impressions shortly.

Can tell that, these are created just to show 1080p on PS3. Not much different from PS2's version except more people

Am I going crazy/being biased when I think those people are looking uglier than anything I've seen in a racing game for a long time?

What's with the puddles of grey blobby shadow under some of them too?

I think the people looks uglier is because they are in 3D (PS2 was in 2D), and lack of proper lighting/shadow.

The people in Image 6 certainly dont look 3D. Those are some of the most unispiring pics I have ever seen.

Horrible.
Not sure why they wanted to show that since it looks basically no better than last-gen. Weirdest looking screens I've seen for a while - it's as though everything looks surreal - something about the colours, greyishness.... weird. Figures look like they've been pasted onto the scenery.

i would hope it looks better in motion than in pic form.

i guess it's a bit like PGR3, i thought it looked hideous until i saw it in motion.

Wow! It looks so similar to Project Gotham Racing 3.

The question is: there are no fences in one of those pictures, does that mean you can run the spectators down? Other then that those spectators look like they've just been copied and pasted from somewhere else.

It's Gran Turismo. Of course you can't run off the track - invisible barriers ahoy. At least, I'd imagine that to be the case.

Of course. Anything less and it just wouldn't be Gran Turismo. icon_wink.gif

But on this GT HD thing, I'm not interested. Normally I would be, but meh to this. What happened to GT's vision? Sure, the online aspect is apart of said vision and well in some respects the graphics are too but damn Polyphony. What the hell are you doing?

^ more likely we'll end up with a full blown GT5, rather than GT4HD (or GT2006, if you want the comparison between GT2/GT2000/GT3 made easier).

wait and see imo, afterall, this is only the first shots.

Yeah the thought of what happened with Gran Turismo 2000 crossed my mind in regards to this but I dunno. For some reason this GT HD seems like it will go ahead and then GT5 (or Vision GT or whatever they want to call it) will be afterwards. I hope that's not the case.
