Pre E3 2006: Virtua Fighter 5 heading to the PS3

PS3 News | Hiiiiiiii-yahhhhhh!
It's hardly surprising, but Sega have just confirmed that the latest in their 3D fighting series, Virtua Fighter 5, will be making its way from the arcade to the PlayStation 3 next year. The series has always been at the forefront of the 3D fighting genre, and there's no reason to expect that to change with Virtua Fighter 5.

As well as your standard graphics upgrade, there have been a few new additions to the game since Evolution. Two new characters are the most obvious - Mexican Lucha Libre specialist, El Blaze, and Eileen, who is apparently an expert in monkey kung fu, which will no doubt get Chris' pulse racing. Custome and character customizations will be available in the game - if you have enough money, which can be obtained by beating the tar out of your opponents. A new move - the 'Offensive Move' - will do something Sega promises will make the game more strategic. Just what exactly it is, we don't know yet.

"Virtua Fighter 5 will offer fans the ultimate next-generation fighting game experience," beamed the proud Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing at Sega of America. "For years, the industry has talked about bringing the arcade experience to the living room. Virtua Fighter 5 fulfills this promise, and then some."

No doubt more will surface during E3. Until then, feast your eyes on the first pretty screenshots in the media panel.

PS3

X360

I really can't see the differences... Now don't get me wrong I'm not a sony hater here, as thanks to that stupid Brother in Arms trailer I'll probably getting a PS3 at launch now.
Though if we're making another fighting game here to compete with the other fighting games, I can't see there's anyway to top it other then make it prettier.

I've heard that VF5 looks waay better then any other fighter before it - remember that it's already out in Japanese arcades, and that even these screens are not PS3 footage, but arcade board footage (Model 4?).

However, yeah, IMO those screens don't look that impressive by themselves.

No online almost kills it though. Some people bearly have enough time for video games let alone time to organise people to come over and play...

But David is right the screens don't do it justice. As for example in that level on DoA the sakura floats on the breeze and swirls and changes direction, and the shows in the ground change with the swaying of the trees. Though the VF5 pic does look a bit barren. Surely the PS3 version will add some atmosphere to the game.

^ made me 'buy'

Holy smokes....those 2 screens look amazing. Imo I think DOA4 has some of the best ingame graphics to date. It's hard to compare those two screens cuz one has the ground as water and the other of a footpath.....it would be good to see the ground textures on VF5.
