RUMOUR: Final Fantasy XIII to be announced at E3?

PS3 News | Says a French site, sourcing an American magazine.

Based on the loose translation, Jeux France is reporting that Final Fantasy XIII may be primed for a E3 debut this year. According to them, the rumours section in EGM magazine is suggesting that the title will be revealed as a PS3 exclusive in only a few short months. Note the 31/03/06 date on the article, so it seems unlikely to be an April fool's prank.

The news does seem a little strange, given the highly acclaimed Final Fantasy XII has yet to be given a chance to earn any acclaim outside of Japan. Famitsu had an interview with Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts II producer, Tetsuya Nomura, where he said that numerous titles are going to be unveiled at this year's E3 and Tokyo Games Show.

Square released a statement at 1up saying not to believe the rumours. They've really got nothing to gain if they remain a Sony exclusive, they might as well release it on all three consoles and earn some extra Yen.

FFXIII would already be in the early stages of development I'd say, so this is certainly a possibility. I mean, there were rumours regarding FFXIII back in the early stages of FFXII's development process.

What the hell is with this massive onslaught of Final Fantasy games? This is meant to be one of those very few games I buy full-price at launch, so it looks like I'll either be broke entirely off the back (hehe, brokeback) of Final Fantasy games alone or a very deprived gamer this year.
