New design for PS3!

PS3 News | Er, according to one Australian site anyway.

Ah, we love it when the mainstream media attempts serious videogame coverage. It often ends in an error somewhere down the line, though the faux pas made by Australia’s News.com.au (that's right, we're not even giving it a link) is the most impressively stupid one we've seen in a while. In a recent piece about the new PlayStation 3 launch details, the site has posted not a picture of the PlayStation 3, but a piece of concept art of the console, drawn up by a PlayStation fan three years ago. Google Image Search has a lot to answer for:

You have to laugh, really. Then maybe cry a bit.

it's funny, i'd never seen that "concept" (term used loosely, i assume it's actually some fanboy's wet-dream, it's quite horrid really) before that article, and pretty much said what i said on the other thread.

also, i love this quote in the article itself:

ok, so this gen is Sony's 2nd, and next will be Sony's 3rd, but it doesn't tie with any of the other brands. that matches with the SNES, and the X360 on the call of 2nd, and N64 and the X720.

Why is the media always so half-assed with vieogame related coverage?5 mins more spent on the piece confirming the picture or hell, just asking one of the younger staff members might have yielded an article worth reading rather then lining the birdcage.

I cracked up when I read this over there today. Sydney Morning Herald are equally as shocking when it comes to coverage of gaming.

That was got to be the worst attempt of a PS3 concept I have seen.

PSP & DS = Gen 7.

Handhelds are a different catergory all together...

Something along the lines of:
Gen 1: Game watches and the like
Gen 2: Gameboy
Gen 3: Gameboy Pocket/Colour* (This could be in Gen 2 cause it wasn't really an upgrade apart from adding colour and making it smaller)
Gen 4: Gameboy Advance
Gen 5?: Dual Screen and Playstation Portable

Even then with handhelds it's harder to mark the generations, cause what would you define as a new generation? Is it based off versions of Gameboy or what? Cause the PSP is completely different from the DS and GBA...

you forgot GameGears and Lynx' in that rundown.
i'd say GB pocket = GB gen (2), GB Colour = gen 3
and even then, what about those old LCD games, are they equivalent to Game and Watch, or before?

regardless, mainstream media = noobs.

Does everyone still remember the article PALGN posted last November at the time of the 360's launch? They used the wrong picture of it and made a few other mistakes as well.

Didn't channel 9 do the same when the 360 launched in the states? The news report had the 1st picture on google image of what was a concept.

I'm not watching the Games so I haven't seen her.

I do catch her a fair bit during the week though whenever she is presenting the news. Normally because mum likes to watch it.

I make sure I catch Jaynie Seal do the weather though, oh my I like her.

We have a hot weather girl too, but then I found out I'm a distant relation of hers.....

We actually had an alright article comparing the PS3 and the 360 here, although they also got two fan boys who were more biased than hardcore sport fans.
