Resident Evil 5 to debut simultaneously on PS3 and Xbox 360

PS3 News | History not to repeat?
In a interview published this week (in Xbox360ism, a special issue of Japanese rag Dorimaga), Capcom heavyweight Kenji Inafune says he expects that Resident Evil 5 will be released simultaneously on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, if possible.

"We want to grow the Resident Evil series into a multi-platform franchise, so we hope to release it simultaneously [on the two next-generation consoles]," Inafune explained. "But since we don't know the launch period for the PS3 yet, so it's hard to say [if we can]." Inafune also revealed that Resident Evil 5 will have an online component, but remained mum on the issue.

Capcom's other next generation title, mass zombie disposal sim Dead Rising has seen a bit of a delay, and is now planned for release in the middle of 2006. Inafune explained that he could have released the game much earlier (a January date has appeared on release calendars), but wishes to take the extra time to ensure that the game is as polished as it can be. He also elaborated that Microsoft asked him to develop an Xbox 360 exlusive title for a Japanese audience, but Capcom declined, stating that their intention now is to make titles that are successful worldwide, regardless of the console on which they're based.

PALGN expects that Resident Evil 5 will arrive as a part of the second or third wave of PlayStation 3 titles, meaning that it won't likely see release until 2007 on both consoles. We could be wrong, but a pleasant surprise is better than disappointment, no?

i'm so glad they're maintaining their relations with Nintendo.

I'd only have to assume they haven't confirmed a nintendo release yet as they(capcom) prolly know as much as what we do abou the rev-

I wish capcom would focus on making it for the ps3, taking full advantage of its superior hardware, then porting it to the 360 if they want.

With the specs of the revolution released, I can understand why Capcom wouldn't bring RE5 to Nintendo. Still good news for the Xbox360.

First Resident Evil game for a Microsoft machine, right?

The specs of the Revolution HAVE NOT been released, only idiot IGN posting rumour as news.

No respectable site has reported 'those' fake developer's comments as news. And previous comments by IBM, ATI, MoSys and Nintendo themselves all contradict the 'specs' IGN have posted - which are not even specs, they're mostly just an un-named (therefore suspicious) developer's musings.

So you played the RE4 version on the GC yes?

So is the GC version better or is the additional content on the PS2 make it better?

My question is does it really matter? No.

We don't know which party has enticed Capcom to make it dual console. What we do currently know is its going to be on both Xbox 360 and PS3.

Nah - Capcom said they're going Multi platform for basically all games next gen - and it seems they're convinved 360 will be bigger in the USA and PS3 in Japan, so all games will be on both. One of the less stupid things they've done in recent times.

Considering Nintendo will most probably never release the specs I think developer musings are very important. Sure these are not 100% deadshot specs, things could change, but it gives us insight on what were looking at when it comes to the rev. Whether or not they are fake, I suppose time will tell but at the moment IGN seems to think they are "legit." Still I understand where your coming from, and I do hope IGN have just got it mixed up.

With that being said I think Nintendo will gain the "spin-off" RE games next generation, with the bulk going towards the PS3 and to a lesser extent the Xbox360.

Absolutely, and I don't think this trend will be limited to Capcom either, especially if IGN's developer sources are to be believed. Something more akin to Dead Aim (which was reasonably good) that'll take advantage of the Rev's controller.

Yeah i played Re4 on the cube and technically it is better, but the difference from the cube to ps2 isnt as big a jump as it is from ps3 to 360, if they took advantage of the ps3's advantage re5 could be truly beautiful (even more so then it will be)
