Kojima to retire from MGS duties after Metal Gear 4 is finished

PS3 News | But don't bet on it.
Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima has said that the excellently titled Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be the last time he contributes to the series. Kojima's comments were made at the Tokyo Game Show, where he assured an eagerly listening press that, 'This fourth [Metal Gear Solid] is going to be the final one for me and [art designer] Youji Shinkawa. There are other things that [we] want to create.'

Though having previously said he'd retire after Metal Gear Solid 3, only to return for the latest MGS, you think we believe him? Of course we don't.

yeah, i was gonna say, didn't he say that after MGS3?

and then also after MGS2?

i dunno, i guess we'll have to see how this MGS finishes, maybe the next MG game won't be MGS, so he keeps his promise, and this will be the last MGS title he works on, but continues with the MG franchise.

Well I suppose there is only so much you can do with a Metal Gear Solid game. You can't have Snake defeat a Metal Gear, only to have another built, then another and another. That is kinda weak. I'd like to see what other directions another director would take this license in. What am I saying? Once Mr Kojima leaves, Metal Gear is DOOOOOMED!

If what Mr Kojima is saying is true, It would certainly be interesting to see what he and Mr Shinkawa are thinking of. Hopefully it's something for the Revolution. I mean, Mr Iwata's keynote address did have Mr Kojima praising the controller, so I would imagine that he would have some ideas of the thing. Here's hoping.

I definitely expect something developed for the Revolution by Kojima-san. I mean c'mon, he did make Boktai after all...
