Resident Evil 5 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360

PS3 News | Revealed in the latest Famitsu.
The latest issue of Japanese rag Famitsu has revealed the first shots of Biohazard 5, which is better known to you and I as Resident Evil 5. While copyrights prevent us from showing the shots, we can tell you that it does look bloody brilliant.

Details are coming out slowly at the moment, due to the need to translate the article, but here's a short list

  • To be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 - no Revolution version mentioned
  • Not developed by Studio 4 or Clover Studio
  • Produced by Jun Takeuchi, whose previous work includes Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Onimusha and Onimusha 2
  • Urban environments (they look rather Spanish/South American in nature)
  • Same gameplay style as Resident Evil 4

We'll have more on Resident Evil 5 as soon as is humanly possible.

This is about the worst (and dumbest) news I've heard in a while.

So they abandon Sony players by making Resident Evil exclusive to Nintendo for most of the generation, and now abandon Nintendo fans for next gen?

Now they've screwed everyone at least once!

What happens if PS2 RE4 flops? (Why wouldn't it? When was the last time a year old port to a less powerful system did well?)

I'll never understand this idea of 'sequels exclusive to a different company's platform' idea. At this rate, Resident Evil will go the same way as Dino Crisis.....

Yeah, it sucks that nintendo wasn't able to bag it. Although there is still plenty of time. I'll be getting a PS3, so I'm not all that worried. Just thinking of what the next generation can do to a game like RE4...

I'm dying for some screens, you may not be able to show them, but can you describe them, pleeeease?

[edit]
I doubt the PS2 version will "flop". It might not sell as well as the Gamecube version but it won't flop. RE4 breathed new life into a dying series and opened it up to a much larger audience. I'd say the Resident Evil series has never been in a better spot. The fact the next RE game will continue with the RE4 story and use it's gameplay elements is a very good sign.

You're negative against everything anti-Nintendo. Capcom have to take a realistic business strategy to ensure that they receive enough revenue, and perhaps the Revolution's concept isn't particularly something Capcom are willing to present with the Resident Evil series, yet. It's far too early to make assumptions on Capcom's position for this title, and the series itself.

You can never trust Capcom with keeping any exclusives for systems anymore though. The producer behind Resident Evil 4 said that the title will remain a Gamecube exclusive and if it went to another console he would kill himself, which hasn't happened yet. But when you're a third party company you've got to play as a business first and not play favourites, unless a significant amount is put in front of you, to ensure success and revenue.

well it probably wouldn't work on nintendo's crazy "console" anyway, so who cares..

(yes now instead of being pro-nintendo, I'm just anti-sony, anti-microsoft, and anti-nintendo..)

Besides, RE4 on the GCN wouldn't have sold as well as it would have on the PS2 (This may have something to do with the large amount of PS2 consoles sold in comparison to GCNs as well as GCN owners who are silly). Furthermore, Nintendo have been very slow off the mark in terms of development kits (which I am under the impression have not been sent to developers, considering the controller has only recently been finalised), and that a straight forward game may not have a suitable home for a console that controls using less buttons and analogue sticks than ever before.

Edit: Seems I've just reiterated what everybody else posted. icon_neutral.gif

Some other times, maybe, but not this time...

I was pointing out that they have now alienated the Resident Evil fanbase TWICE, by switching from mainly Sony consoles to mainly Nintendo, and now back again.

I know how you feel. Bring back Sega!

I dont see how Capcom have ever alienated ps2 gamers, Resident Evil 4 IS coming to the PS2. The gamecube didnt get anything the PS2 / Ps-One didn't get except a few remakes. Hell, the PS2 still has the survivor series.

RE5 probably wouldn't work on the Revolution anyway, primarily if it's going to have the same controls (as RE4) and the revolution has a radically different controller.

So then why not use GC controllers, probably because the system won't be able to handle it technically.

Erm....RE Zero? And there was only one remake........

More to the point, RE4 (and the whole series) was announced as only on GCN for, like 3 years. The RE4 port is just throwing PS2 a bone (from a RE point of view).

But yeah, I find the survivor series another bizzare situation, and the outbreak game(s). A resident evil fan has to have both consoles to get all games. Who would have bought Survivor and Outbreak that didn't already have a GC for REmake and Zero? Those two games are far more important, series wise.

i think you're all counting chickens here...

they haven't said it's NOT coming to NRev, they just haven't said it IS coming... given almost nothing is known about the NRev, it makes sense to me to not anounce a game for it yet either... since it mightn't be a viable option on the NRev for whatever reason and if they say "yes we're making it for all 3 consoles" and then find out it's not even possible on one of them, it'll p!ss more people off than announcing later that it's coming...

or maybe Nintendo are gagging everyone and anyone from announcing games for it so as to build suspence or not let some other detail regarding the system out...

You make a good point - it's already not 'exclusive'.

And based on history, they'll do a remake of 4, a 'Code Veronica 2' and release about 8 spin off games before 5 comes out!
