Final PS3 hardware to be even more powerful than E3 model?

PS3 News | E3 demos used only 75 per cent of final system speed (allegedly).
It's being claimed that the PlayStation 3 hardware showcased at E3 last month was running at only 75 per cent of the final system speed. That's according to Japanese website ITmedia, which recently revealed that the development kits that powered the likes of Killzone 2 and the superb Unreal Tournament 2007 demo from Epic Games were running on hardware clocked at just 75 per cent of the hardware's final projected speed.

ITMedia argued that whilst the final Cell chip will be chugging along at 3.2GHz, the chip in the development kits runs at 2.4GHz. What's more, the graphics part used for the demos wasn't the final RSX chip, but rather a different NVIDIA GPU which may not have been optimised for the PS3's high-speed RAMBUS memory interface.

Obviously, this all follows on from Microsoft's claim that the Xbox 360 titles showed off at E3 were running on alpha-version development kits which possess as little as 25 per cent of the power of the final 360 hardware, so it's probably wise to take these latest findings with a pinch of salt for now.

More as it breaks though.

Rubbish.

i think it makes sense...

games always get better as people (developers) work out ways of pinching that little extra from a machine...

you really just need to look at a launch title vs a title near the end of the consoles life...

the numbers are probably pulled out someone's arse though, but i'm sure nothing (next gen console based) was utilising the entire capability of any of their respective console...

in fact i'd say nothing THIS gen based was probably using the entire console's resources... though some things would be extremely close... especially on the PS2
