Unreal Engine 3 to be used for PS3 games

PS3 News | New Epic Games technology to come as standard with all PS3 development packages.
Epic Games have now announced that it will be offering its Unreal Engine 3 as a part of Sony's development package for PlayStation 3 games, allowing PS3 developers to make complete use of the Unreal Engine 3.

'We're committed to making Unreal Engine 3 the best game engine for the PlayStation 3', burbled Tim Sweeney, CEO and co-Founder of Epic Games. 'We plan to offer it to our licensees as soon as the program is underway and we're very excited about the level of performance and visual quality we will be able to deliver on this platform. It should be an excellent fit for the platform and our licensees will benefit immensely from the experience we have been able to gain thus far working with it.'

So now companies can potentially use Unreal Engine 3 for both Xbox 360 and PS3 games. We'll be sure to keep you updated on any further developments.

Smart move. The Unreal 3 engine looks to be the new Renderware as far as developer distribution goes.
