Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD announced

PS3 News | Maybe we'll get this one.
Fans of the Monster Hunter series desperately waiting for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd to make it's way might find themselves playing the title on an unexpected platform. Announced today by Sony, and detailed over at NeoGAF, Capcom has revealed Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD will be released on the PlayStation 3.

As with past high definition upgrades, like the God of War Collection, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD is a console re-release of the PlayStation Portable title sharing the same name. With the extra power of the PlayStation 3, players can look forward to 1080p visuals and upgraded assets, as well as support for stereoscopic 3D. Additionally, players can look forward to new content exclusive to the platform, as well as the ability to transfer their PlayStation Portable saves over to the console release

This release is the first in what will be known as the 'PlayStation Portable Remastered' line of software. Though currently slated only for release in Japan, this line of software will include popular PlayStation Portable titles remastered and re-released on the PlayStation 3.

Hopefully this release of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, along with other remastered titles, will make their way to our shores. In the meantime, check out the announcement trailer below.

Judging from the interest in Japan, I take it these games are great? What are they like (genre, play style, etc)

They are 3rd person action games. You get given monsters that you have to kill, go find them in the world, then kill them. You upgrade your armour and weapons etc.

They are pretty crazy popular. This series basically revived the PSP into the sales juggernaut it is today in Japan.

It's the best game known to man! THE BEST! All you need is Monster Hunter 3rd Portable and you'll never look back.

If you can organize fellow hunters the co-op part is awesome.

My first PSP gifted game but I haven't played it due to a massive backlog. Seen my bf playing the Wii version and it looks like a solid game.

I love how their trailer ends with a WTF moment (Wii one was better if I recall correctly with the cooking meat).

Not sure if I would want to play it on the PS3 though, reason I got a psp because my place only has 1 tv (only have 1 room for it anyway).

It's got the same hook as an MMO, upgrade yourself, take on bigger monsters, upgrade yourself, take on bigger monsters etc etc.

Is it just me or are these games ridiculously hard? Monster Hunter Freedom Unite gave me nightmares...

Nah no way, the game I thought is quite easy. It's all about choosing the right equipment, studying the monsters (which elements they're weak to, etc) and learning the attack patterns.

The monsters get pretty easy once you attack them over and over again just to get those rare drops.

My current blade armor set made from Alatreon, I'm currently using my gold Rathian armor set (aka. Gold Moon) for my gunner.

Also got all the armor sets for the downloadable quests, like the Snake/Big Boss armor.
