First Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 DLC character revealed

PS3 News | Valentine's Day comes early.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is a special kind of game. The kind of game fans have been clamoring for for nearly a decade. The kind of game that takes well known heroes and pits them against each other in an epic battle of strength and curly mustaches. The kind of game where downloadable content is announced before the game is even shipped.

According to United States retailer GameStop, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3's already large roster of character will expand four months after launch with two new characters, revealed by a listing of content for the Collector's Edition.

Who are these two mystery additions? The first is Marvel's demonic tentacle blob Shuma Gorath, who has appeared in past Marvel Vs. Capcom titles. The second, and from Capcom's court, is the ever popular Jill Valentine, who joins Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker as a torch bearer for the Resident Evil series of games.

The price for these two characters, for those who do not order the Collector's Edition, is yet to be formally announced.

DLC characters!? Didn't see that one coming....
(yes that was sarcasm)

What's most important here is what will Jill be wearing? Her skin tight combat suit... or her hussy skirt and holster top combination. icon_smile.gif

its not dlc if its already on the disk...

which pisses me off they way micro transactions are handled.

it used to be - finish the game, unlock a character, a new outfit.

now its buy the game, buy codes to unlock characters and outfits

and now, we get retailers complaining that importing hurts their profits - just go to hell.

Micro-transactions and importation of goods are two entirely different kettles of fish; one benefits the developers coffers while another harms the retailers.

As much as the cynic in me thought this might happen, I really was leaning to the side of 'These guys have too much respect for 2(.5)D fighters to segregate the online playing field with DLC characters'.

I don't even know why I ever doubt the cynic these days.

They won't segregate the online playing field. You'll be able to play against people with the characters and download a 100kb unlock to get em off the disc.

Ridiculous. The game isn't being released until February and they are already 'making DLC' characters. Yeh right. It ain't DLC if you're making it before the game is released; that's part of the game being purposely held back for more $.

Sad day seeing capcom join the greedy corperations market.. Australians get ripped off as it is the way games are so costy here. The last 2 marvel vs capcom had tons of characters and you didnt have to pay a cent extra just unlock them by playing etc.. I am unimpressed capcom next thing ya know they will sell resident evil 6 without the ending but it will be on the disc just need to cough up whatever amount....Shame.

Uh, that's cause it was an arcade game. You just had to pay a dollar for every round.

It was also released before consoles had online as a standard thing...

That's kinda... a really bad comparison.

I mean we had to pay for alternate costumes in Street Fighter 4, it's not exactly new for em.

Eh. These characters are crap to me anyway. So long as I can still fight anyone who wants to pick them, I'll skip the DLC. It will piss me off if they're required for any trophies, though, like if you need them to get trophies for beating the game with every character.

True Benza pay for extra clothing is normal but extra fighters? The didnt even do that with super street fighter 4 they just released a new version on disk all characters intact. I feel honestly game companies are just getting a touch greedy these days lol.

Wait for it, arcade dlc should be out for SSF4 early next year with new characters. (Although in this case they've been developed long after the release of the game, not just on disc unlocks)

Jill Valentine.... This game just became a day one purchase lol (meaning DLC day one)

Another way to make more money. Honestly, announcing DLC characters when the game hasn't even been released yet? Pathetic.

Ya know I'm starting to wonder why I'm so cut at this.

I mean I think it's absolute bull **** that they've got DLC charecters at release, but had absolutley no problem with it for Blazblue?

The DLC characters aren't on release, it's 4 weeks AFTER the game has been released.

I find it stupid that they announce this right now. I don't see why they cannot just announce this AFTER the game has been released to the public, would make much more sense. Rather than having a lot of people think this is just a poor attempt to gain more sales; which it is.

Like they said with the RE5 multiplayer, it's likely the budget for these characters came from projected DLC sales and we wouldn't have them otherwise. Every dollar is looked at by committee. If they don't, well, they'd go the way of APB.

I can't wait till they start releasing character moves as DLC. I can see it now, "Ken, now with the Fiery Dragon Punch!" or "Launch fireballs with Ryu that travel the entire screen!"
