This is going to be awesome, love seeing all the old characters back in it too.

... I'm looking at YOU mass effect...

Finally some single player DLC. Will probably get this if it reviews well.

This **** sounds amazing. I've gone from "Yeah this is gunna be fun" to "**** this is going to be awesome" New Stranger missions, fully voiced cutscenes, taking towns back from zombies to save people only to have them over run again sounds awesome.

Dammit. I traded my copy in. I really shouldn't rebuy it just for this.

But zombies... icon_sad.gif

Yes you should.

You really should.

Or hold off, see what DLC they put out next and buy the eventual GOTY edition or whatever

They are releasing a stand alone disk with all DLC released so far. It will be $30US.

I both love and absolutely hate that that's coming out. Shouldn't that have been, I don't know, what they released to begin with? Grrr...

What and then we wouldn't get our hands on Red Dead Redemption untill this month?

It's not like this is a whole bunch of stuff they've developed while the game was being developed and have been sitting around for a year slowly releasing it while doing nothing.
Not the zombie stuff. That's the only bit of DLC that looks like a substantial addition to the game.

All 3 peices of multiplayer DLC on the other hand stink of pre-planned, post release revenue scrounging. IIRC, the game was barely out before they were announced. That's the sort of thing that will always leave a bad taste with me and have me asking those questions.

When it comes down to it, I'd rather weather a belated release date and get a complete game rather than wait for the the devs to nickle and dime for the stuff that 'couldn't make release'. It escapes me why people are OK with the latter. What exactly would the wait cost you?

DLC; DIAF.

Yes, this is how it works amazingly enough. When will people get it? DLC is planned in advance, usually as part of the publishing deal - you give us this game, plus some DLC for near release, we pay you. It's not like devs are just going "oh hey guys, you know how we spent the last couple years slaving away making that one game? How about, instead of taking some time off, we jump right back into it and put out some MORE CONTENT?! Sounds fun, right? Awesome."
Oh, well in that case...

That changes nothing. DLC is still the bane of the new gen. I know nothing I say will change a thing but better out then in right? If only that applied to DLC too...

Yeah, I know, I'm just sick of all the bile aimed at devs over DLC when (in my experience) nine times out of ten they'd rather not do that **** in the first place.
Technically in this case Cap's anger is justifiable, seeing as Rockstar both developed, and published, RDR. It's not like they argued with themselves (maybe they did, or different divisions argued with one another, but ultimately it all goes to the same place anyway).
When you're big enough to have multiple dev studios, you're going to have seperate divisions for marketing, legal, etc. Just sayin', the people making the game won't be making those calls.

Why is this bad? So they release a game and plan to release DLC after it's released? I don't see this as being a negative thing. It means that I have a reason to keep going back to a game when ever the new DLC is released instead of beating it and putting it in a shelf and only brining it out if I feel nostalgic.

I don't give a **** about the multi player so I just didn't buy it. It's not like at release RDR was lacking. The game was **** marvelous. Without any multiplayer at all it still would have been a brilliant game. The multiplayer in it was pretty awesome too.
So they release a brilliant game, with a solid multiplayer component and it's fine.

They release a brilliant game with a solid multiplayer component, with a plan to add more features down the line and they're scum of the earth?

What gives?

Whoa, I've been misinterpreted. I wasn't directing my anger at the guys in the trenches, (although I see that I wrote 'devs'... oops). I know they're the unsung heroes of the industry. My beef is most definitely not with them. I'm pointing the finger at whoever makes that call; the suits, pencil pushers, the fat cats et al...

I actually heard a rumour that Rockstar wanted to release some of that multiplayer stuff for free, like they did with that co-op pack, but Microsoft's DLC model wouldn't allow it. Something about only so much free DLC allowed per game on XBox Live. I'll see if I can hunt that info down...

Planning for DLC, presumably before development even begins is f***ing terrible! Instead of putting content into the game, they're preemptively sectioned off into post-release premium packs. Can't you see how that's a bad thing?!

Before DLC, most things would have made the cut. Now there's the opportunity to hold back and release stuff later and ask a price. I'm not saying that content is completed and then held back for later release, (although I'm sure this does happen; I'm looking at you Bioware), I'm saying the option is now there and developers* are running wild with it. Hell, they'd be stupid not to. They're running a business and who would say no to more money. It makes sense. For them.

As a consumer though, it's total bullsh!t. We are being exploited and nobody seems to give a ****. It drives me up the f***ing wall. To quote a certain manic detective: '[They're] pissing all over us. [They're] pissing on you. What does it taste like? 'Cause you know what, it tastes like piss to me.'

You're putting words in my mouth. I love Rockstar and RDR. What I don't love is being expected to pay $30 for extraneous crap. Those so called 'features' are hardly worth the asking price either. While I never support this sort of thing by paying up, the problem is that people do. That sends a message, and that message is, 'Please keep pissing on us! HURRR...' Bastards have ruined it for the rest of us.

Btw, if I'm coming across as a cynical arsehole, it's because I'm a cynical arsehole icon_smile.gif

Also let's not forget that 10 years ago these extra features, maps, models, etc would have been called patches, and given away for free to happy customers of games. Now that we're being forced to pay for it we're supposed to swallow that? I don't think so.

No one is expecting you to do anything. I haven't purchased any of the DLC for RDR because so far it's all been ****.

If the DLC offers nothing of value, then don't buy it.

When they're cutting content out of the game to release later as DLC or selling codes to unlock content that's allready on the disc. Then yeah that's a reason to be upset about it.

When they're selling new content that's been developed after release, I really don't see a problem with it. They're extending the life of the game, stuff like the latest DLC for Mass Effect 2 makes me go back and play the game again when usually I wouldn't touch it again. To me that's getting more value out of the game.

10 years ago console games didn't even have the option to add new features post release. So no the extra features in console games were not being given away for free. The maps that game in Perfect Dark were the only maps you'd ever play.

Yeah ok you could get content after release on PC games, but ****. That was a decade ago, times change. If you're going to lamment over every change in gaming in the past decade you're going to be a verry bitter person.

Poor word choice. That should have read 'asked'. Point still stands though. It doesn't matter if you or I don't support it; the problem is that a lot of people do, and it's not helping anything.

I'm ok with DLC if the value proposition is worthwhile. It's a damn shame this is rarely the case. The vast majority of DLC (if not the sort of thing normally included with the game), is worthless, over-priced **** and because people keep throwing money at it, that's what we're going to continue to see. Map packs that split online communities. Exclusive weapons that give unfair advantage to those willing to pay for it. Character skins that... just.. no.

I could go on but I feel we'll just keep going round in circles. My previous post pretty much said everything I feel about the subject. I rather just leave it at that and not run the risk of having an aneurysm...

Not every change. Just this one. And for something that has arguably made the most significant impact on game design to date, I think it's one worth getting concerned about.
