MotorStorm: Apocalypse announced

PS3 News | The leaked image prophecy was true!
Early images may have leaked not too long ago, but the PlayStation Blog has today officially announced MotorStorm: Apocalypse for the PlayStation 3.

Set in a fictional location simply dubbed 'The City', MotorStorm: Apocalypse has you racing in the middle of just that; an apocalypse. Buildings and structures will crumble and collapse in real time under nature's wrath, littering the tracks with debris and dynamically shaping the racing path. But that's not all; when you return to a race a building that has collapses will stay collapsed, with even more paths and destruction occurring in replays, making sure every race stays unique unless you choose to go back.

Players will be able to fully customise their vehicles from a number of vehicle parts and special vehicle perks, taking them online to either share their creations, or race with up to 15 additional people. Persistent stat tracking and online awards will give you the recognition you deserve, and if playing online isn't your cup of tea you can always sit down to 4 player split screen, which itself can be taken online too.

On top of all this, there is a Game Creator Mode which allows you to tweak and alter your own gameplay and victory settings for a much more personalised race, which can then be taken into tournaments and played online.

There is much more to be revealed about MotorStorm: Apocalypse, so stay tuned to PALGN during E3 2010 for the latest scoops.

After the Pacific Rift 3D demo, it would be a shame to not have this new one made for 3D. I guess they'll let us know at E3.

I was never really interested in the previous Motorstorm games, but dynamic destruction which permanently alters tracks, set in a post-apocalyptic world and, maybe even some zombies in the mix to run over?

Umm yeah, I think I'll be getting this one.

Like Andrew, the Motorstorm games never grabbed me. Apocalypse looks interesting but I'm not sure if a change of scenery will win me over. Still, interested in the direction it takes.

I'm just getting into Motorstorm now, having just picked up pacific rift, and I have to say it's one of those few games that I can suck at terribly and not care. It's just so damned awesome.

This sequel... with all the buildings and stuff crumbling around you... it's going to be awesome. They just have to make sure it's not all in dead cities... one of the strengths of the course design (in pacific rift) is in the sheer variety of environments, so hopefully this third game will have that variety. It's hard to say whether that variety is there or not from 10 screenshots.

Definitely a hell yeah from me. Big fan of MS1 and 2, favourite racers right next to Wipeout HD, so this is an insta-buy for me.

Looks like Fuel and Split/Second had a baby.
