Killzone 3 details revealed

PS3 News | I'm in the zone, baby!
It would seem that information on one of Sony's big titles set for an E3 reveal has leaked onto the internet, thanks to GamePro magazine. PlayStation 3 fans best be prepared to again take on waves of Helghast as they return to the war in Killzone 3.

Supposedly inspired by Inglorious Basterds, Killzone 3 will show gamers that the Helghast still have some humanity left in them, showing us their language and culture, while pushing themes of being away from home and up against unbeatable odds.

The core combat mechanics will remain mostly unchanged from Killzone 2, however the developers have added a jet pack to the mix, allowing players to mix in some crazy air dynamics and platforming with the standard shooting. To further spice things up a hand-to-hand combat system will be added to take down stunned enemies.

The scale of environments and events is set to be bigger, with one level using the jet pack to jump from glacier to glacier, with some levels taking place in an arctic, snowy condition, with a greater diversity in other locations for the rest of the game.

One new weapon to add to your arsenal is the Wasp, which shoots a flurry of rockets at the enemy, while the jet pack itself will be equipped with a machine gun, which you will need considering the enemy too will be using jet packs.

A particularly big announcement is that Killzone 3 will support a 3D rendering mode. You'll need to wear the appropriate glasses and sit centred to the screen to see the effects, but the 3D effects will help draw you into the Killzone universe like never before.

With no official media currently available to the public, we can assume that Sony will blow the lid off this anticipated title during their upcoming E3 2010 press conference.

Did some extra snooping:

Apparently it's rumoured to hit March 13th as well. That's a very big rumour though.

Naughty Dog are also behind helping develop the technology of the game.

Also, mag scans.

All I can say is hell f***ing yeah. Kz2 MP was kick ass, and the SP was great fun too, so I'm expecting a lot out of Kz3. Hopefully they have another national tourney and this time I can take first place instead of second ; P

I do remember the awesome MP of KZ2 with Denny and the other PALGN peeps. Can't wait to try it out again. Jetpacks are going to be a lot fun.

Watermarked screenshots and magazine scans dont usually look to hot in the main news post icon_razz.gif. But yeah, there's the information.

One of my most anticipated game. KZ2 was awesome, just had a few MP flaws that made people leave it early. Hopefully KZ3 addresses some of these issues and gives us some freedom when making custom/clan matches.

Bring on E3! =]

Yarrly, I was going to edit in the direct feed screen but considering the watermark, twas too ugly so left it as just a forum post.

Can't wait for more info on this. Guerrilla have impressed me a lot with their games as have Naughty Dog.

I never even thought about picking up KZ2 since it was released about 12 months before I picked up my PS3 and the first was, in my opinion, boring, but I'm mildly interested in this one. I'll wait for more information first, though.

I'd agree that KZ2 graphics were truly awesome - though the simultaneously flighty/tardy controls made it virtually unplayable (IMHO). The devs better fix it, or the next game will underperform just like the last. Whist I'm complaining - hopefully they've got some writers in to help make amends for the meat-headed dialogue that plagued KZ2's campaign. Truly awful. icon_evil.gif

I thought it controlled extremely well, the devs intentionally made the controlles have a definate weight to them.

I like the sound of fleshing out the Helghast, making them a more interesting enemy instead of the macho-robots they pretty much were in KZ2.

Definitely a game I'm going to put a lot of time into

I have played Killozone 2, it's a fabulous game and even it graphics and gameplay is awesome. If this game rocks then I think Killozone 3 will be more better than this.
