Supposedly inspired by Inglorious Basterds, Killzone 3 will show gamers that the Helghast still have some humanity left in them, showing us their language and culture, while pushing themes of being away from home and up against unbeatable odds.
The core combat mechanics will remain mostly unchanged from Killzone 2, however the developers have added a jet pack to the mix, allowing players to mix in some crazy air dynamics and platforming with the standard shooting. To further spice things up a hand-to-hand combat system will be added to take down stunned enemies.
The scale of environments and events is set to be bigger, with one level using the jet pack to jump from glacier to glacier, with some levels taking place in an arctic, snowy condition, with a greater diversity in other locations for the rest of the game.
One new weapon to add to your arsenal is the Wasp, which shoots a flurry of rockets at the enemy, while the jet pack itself will be equipped with a machine gun, which you will need considering the enemy too will be using jet packs.
A particularly big announcement is that Killzone 3 will support a 3D rendering mode. You'll need to wear the appropriate glasses and sit centred to the screen to see the effects, but the 3D effects will help draw you into the Killzone universe like never before.
With no official media currently available to the public, we can assume that Sony will blow the lid off this anticipated title during their upcoming E3 2010 press conference.
