Sony boss happy with 2009 figures

PS3 News | Uncharted 2 sells almost 3 million copies.
Sony America President and CEO Jack Tretton has said that 2009 was the best year yet for the PlayStation 3, despite the global financial crisis. He pointed to the success of games like Uncharted 2 to helping the console compete with the Xbox 360 and Wii.

Posting on the PlayStation blog, Mr Tretton said spending on PS3 software was up by more than 15% in the UK, the US and Japan. He said that December had been the best sales month in the console’s history, surpassing one million consoles sold and 7.3 million software (game) units sold.

Mr Tretton also said that Uncharted 2 had gone beyond the company’s expectations, with the critically-acclaimed game having almost sold three million units, while MAG had already sold over half a million copies.

“We’re also bringing groundbreaking technology to the masses with the launches of 3D gaming and the new motion controller later this year,” Mr Tretton said.

I suppose the cost of a game is still much cheaper than a night out - global financial crisis equates to staying in more...maybe....
