GTA Episodes head to the PS3 and PC

PS3 News | You should've known it was coming.
Ever since they were announced for the Xbox 360 as a timed exclusive, speculation has been rife that the PlayStation 3 and PC would eventually recieve the two downloadable episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV. Today, Rockstar has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto Episodes from Liberty City will be released on the PlayStation 3 and PC. Both episodes will be available either on disc format, or individually as digital downloads.

For those unaware, the two episodes are The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, which tell the stories of Johnny Klebitz, a biker from The Lost gang and Luis Lopez, the right hand man to the most powerful nightclub owner in Liberty City. Together, they show how elaborately interwoven the GTAIV story was and provide contrasting experiences to Niko's story in the original game.

"It's been a long time coming, but we are proud to finally deliver Episodes From Liberty City for the PC and PlayStation 3," said Sam Houser. "We appreciate the patience of our PlayStation 3 and PC fans worldwide, and we look forward to putting the games in your hands this March."

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City will be available on the stand alone disc from 30 March 2010 globally, and just like the Xbox 360 version, will not require the original game to be played. The digital download copies of The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony will also be globally available on 30 March 2010, on both the PlayStation Network and Games for Windows - LIVE, and will require a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV to be accessed and played.

There is no pricing information available yet, but it is not expected to be much different to the Xbox 360 versions. While you wait for this, why not check out our review of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City?

Damn, I might have to re-buy GTA4 now. Although that's probably easier to do so anyway since I previously had the US version anyway =)

How is this reconciled with Microsoft's exclusivity payment?

Or did some lawyer just get fired from Microsoft for ****ing up the contract?

Don't really give a damn (no pun intended) about this news.Doubt I will buy GTAIV again for these.

You won't need the original if you buy the disc.

No interest. I regret buying GTA4 for PC so I wont be buying these.

icon_lol.gif $50 million for a timed exclusive. Wow. GG Microsoft.

About time. I was sick of the PC version being broken without the armoured cars and shotgun with exploding buck.

I wonder whether the choice to actually release this DLC to the other markets was because it wasn't selling well on the 360. I mean, Rockstar Games could have kept this exclusive to the 360 even after the exclusivity deal ran out but since the packs weren't selling spectacularly on the 360 they had an added incentive to release these to the other platforms.

Either way, a lot of people are either extremely happy or extremely angry about this, from both sides of the camp too.

Not too much reason here for anyone to be angry - 360 owners got the game(s) first, now they're also going to PS3, everyone ultimately wins from this in the end.

Seems like a fair trade in the end - Episodes fr/ Liberty City goes to PS3 and PC, LA Noire (supposedly) will be going to at least 360 as well.

Now can we all just get along? icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah I read the article too quickly and read it wrong.

Still with my one PS3 game a fortnight limit and all the other games I want I doubt I will bother getting this.

To double dip or not to double dip, that is the question...

Oh i'll be double dipping icon_biggrin.gif, have been doing it a lot over the last month (my recent ps3 purchases have been games i've purchased over the last 6 months on the 360).

I havn't even played the 360 version of the Episodes disc due to being swamped with other games at present.

With TLATD on the 360, they accidentally censored the Europe version. So when they released a patch to un-censor it, they also applied it to the Australian version. So I'm not sure if the PS3 will get un-censored, but I don't see why they couldn't, considering the PC version is also un-censored.

My girlfriend bought me a 360 for XMAS, only because I was a huge GTA4 fan and was bummed that couldn't get the extra chapters on my PS3.

Reckon they sold a lot of consoles this way?
$50mil is a lot for not being exclusive for very long.

Exclusive long enough to get a lot of people to buy 360 version of the game and maybe even a console while they're at it.
^ Yep, that's it. Basically if you knew the 360 was the only platform to get DLC, you would have went the 360 version (if you cared about the DLC).

Unless you are a 1st party dev, there is no such thing as exclusive now. The installer base of both platforms are way to big for companies to ignore.

We still see a level of exclusivity that can't really be ignored though.

Microsoft in particular seem to have some pretty hot console exclusives (Halo, Mass Effect, Forza, Gears of War) that really seem to define the system. Although Sony seem to get some good exclusives (MGS, Infamous, Resistance, God of War) it's not so much to crow about and Microsoft seem to win hands down in that department.
