Bayonetta patch fixes PS3 loading times

PS3 News | But doesn't contain a naked code.
One of the major criticisms leveled at the PlayStation 3 version of Bayonetta following its release was the excessively long loading times. Today, developers of the title, Platinum Games, has announced that an online update is now available thanks to the efforts of Sony and Sega.

The update allows the game to be installed on the console’s hard drive, similar to many other PS3 titles. According to the developers, the patch “significantly decreases the loading times for the game”. The update will automatically be downloaded when players launch the game.

We’re not sure if the patch has any affect on the frame-rate drops that the PlayStation version contains, such as when Bayonetta picks something up or when there are lots of enemies on the screen at once. Let us know what your experiences with the newly patched game have been below.

I downloaded this patch last night (all 138MB) and in my opinion it has made the game so much more playable.

The install of the game takes up around 4.5GB of hard drive space, but it's definitely worth it. No longer do I need to wait for unbelievably long load times during the "Practice Mode" screen waiting for a level to load and there's no more of that annoying wait when you pick up an item and you get the "loading" flash on your screen. Skipping cinematics is relatively fast and pausing the game doesn't take forever.

Using the options menu (pressing select) seems much quicker too. All in all this patch has improved a great game and made it so much more playable and enjoyable.

Didn't love the game but the loading times were definitely the worst thing about it.

The other negatives in comparison to the 360 were fine for me. Only the loading sucked.

Just a pity you need to be on drugs to get the game.

And more of a pity each level was an on-rails tiny shoebox like the over-rated DMC games.

The naked code is all anyone actually wanted...=P

Phreakuency, hold on a minute - 'each level was an on-rails tiny shoebox like the over-rated DMC games'?

Er, the levels were linear and tight and focussed on the combat with only minimal emphasis on exploration. Would sandbox environments have benefited Bayonetta?

Of all the complaints one could level at the game, I'm not sure I understand that one.

if they had announced this earlier, I woulda picked it up for PS3. And used up my trade baits. But oh well, meh. X360 version it is.

They fixed the framerate at all?

Have you been drinking again Phreakuency? icon_smile.gif

On rails implies you have no control over the movement of the character in the levels.

But yeah, you either get it or you don't. I'm not a fan nor a critic. The game is a bit 'meh' for me.

But I also think DMC is over-rated, so the game is clearly not for me. But I can see why other people like it and more power to them.

I think he meant the game is linear.

well, most games are. /shrug

It's good to see some improvement. I've read elsewhere the screen tearing has been decreased as well. I'll still only buy this game once it gets cheaper though, there's too much else to play onthe horizon.

It's hard playing this after dedicating so much time to Assassin's Creed 2, especially if you prefer substance over style.

Sorry, I know on-rails usually means a game where you don't control the character. What I should have said, was the levels are short and very narrow.

I must have been drinking icon_razz.gif

DMC with awesomeness and weirdness cranked up to 11!
Easy to pick up but complex enough to validate the time you invest in it. The best game of it's genre on the market.

Why would sony feel shame?

-They didn't make the game.
-They aided the developer who could not meet quality standards
-They benefited the user
-They DIDN'T make this game

Those are industry leading standards, nothing to be ashamed about.
