PS3 News | A generous package.
Square-Enix has announced that Australian gamers will be getting a limited collector’s edition of Final Fantasy XIII. It will be available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 9 March 2010, alongside the standard edition.

The limited collector’s edition will include the original soundtrack, an art book titled ‘The World of Final Fantasy XIII’, Three art prints featuring Eidolons (the summon creatures), an I’cie decal and of course the game itself. The collector’s edition will be available in its own unique box.

Larry Sparks, Vice President Brands PAL Region of Square Enix Ltd. comments, “Final Fantasy XIII is one of the most anticipated entertainment releases of all time and we’re pleased to announce this Limited Collector’s edition for fans across PAL territories, the contents of which have been individually selected by the Final Fantasy XIII development team.”

http://www.ebgames.com.au/search?title=Final+Fantasy+XIII The Collector's Edition is $138 at EB and the game itself is $118.

I slightly could just barely justify myself getting a Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition for $118 (for the tin, making of dvd and artbook) but $138 for just art book, some picture and not a full soundtrack...

What is it with the high standard ed RRP?

Probably because it's a high profile game, still lame though. I'd probably buy that CE if it was cheaper at JB which I hope it will be.

Cha-ching.

Hopefully JB/somebody else has the normal for $99. Fingers crosssed.

can you imagine how much they'ed bump the price up if it were the full soundtrack?
Price on it is a bit disappointing. I'm such a sucker though, my eye's tend to light up on a collectors edition with any sort of soundtrack and artbook. Even if i'm not that interested in the game.
Game have it for $130. JB are yet to list it.

wait for 6 months - GAME will have it on their weekly specials for around $69 or something for the collectors

Yea Game have it for $130, but it also comes with a A4 folder too as stated in their preorder deals.

Because people are willing to pay it. Money is only worth the crap people are willing to drop it on, and if that means a bunch of people value an art book and cd as $20-$30, then that's gonna be its price at market.

What I want to know, is why the rrp of games is still magically based on a world where $1AUD was worth 60 US cents. This is mainly why I import games when I can. And before you say it, yes, I realise I sort of answered this question in my response to IW.

It's $139 at JB as well.

JB has the collector's for $139 higher than EB :\ but the standard is $109

It's just **** what we pay over here for games. They are even doing it on Steam now (see Bioshock 2). The one exception to that was Bayonetta with the Scarborough Fair Replica, that was worth they extra cash.

Look, I usually don't mind paying a little extra for some Bonuses (Forza 3, Star Ocean etc) but $30 for 6 songs, an artbook and some cards... yeah well I don't think so.

I don't blame the retailers, it's the publishers that cause the issues/problem/wallet ****

$120 RRP?! Just as well the PS3 version is region free then - the US release will be $60 as usual.

Where are we being told that it's only 6 tracks on the CD?
Whenever you see a Collector's Edition with a soundtrack it is almost guaranteed to be half or a quarter of the full soundtrack. Mass Effect 2's Digital Deluxe edition comes with 12 of the full 27 tracks, Bayonetta's CE had five whole tracks of a five disc OST. At least that FFXIII picture makes it clear you only get a 'selection'; most other publishers are quite happy to let you think you'll get the full OST.

As far as I can tell its just the same concept as the MGS4 sampler CD - that was one disc, or about a third overall of the complete soundtrack which ran across the two CDs.

Hamauzu's FF13 soundtrack runs in at 4 discs for memory, as per the usual FF standard. I would expect a notable amount of music here, nothing special as such but at least 25 minutes or so.

That's just me though.

Are we likely to get a console pack like the Japanese got? Really, really, really want one.

I’ve been importing for ages now, and this is the exact reason I started. Guarantee you’ll pick up the standard version for under $80 shipped, on release. And I agree, it all comes down to what people are willing to pay, which is why we still have some pretty disgusting pricing to put up with. But hey, if it were an EB exclusive, it wouldn’t go for under $399, so maybe it’s not all that bad? Personally, I’ll keep my $60 for something else, as the bonus content is clearly not worth my money.

It seems more like the CE should be $109, but the standard edition should definitely be <$99. Australian retailers just like to rip us off because we don't have a choice most of the time, if we want the game.

RRP for standard should be more along the lines of $70-$80, in line with American retail (and that's after conversion).

I mean, essentially, there's not much more content here than the Heavy Rain Collector's Edition.

That = $104 including postage from Game website.

This = $129...

That's the Final Fantasy name for you...

I'm impressed how much you guys bitch and moan about $20 here and there. I think the collector's pack is a thing of beauty, so I'll pay money for it happily, and I'll only ever shop at EB, for the simple reason that that is where I get the service. If it costs more that I can go to a shop where I don't need to tell them what game I want, because they know me well enough, then I'll pay it.

I guess that's just because I'm a grown up, and I don't care about money. I'd rather have things.

Service? I only have been to the one shop, practically once a week with the same staff there all the time... They still have no idea wtf i am......

Clearly you're not an adult then, but a child with a large disposable income. Making sacrifices in the name of small comforts for a considerable price saving is usually the trait of adults, rather than children, as it shows an exercise of willpower.

I really worry about your budget if you just buy whatever you want and to the hell with the consequences.
