I was getting to it, but why do people need to add a response when they neg someone but not when they plus them?
Inherently the system is that a + is agreement and thus emulation of the same point, a neg is disagreement, and most people at least wish to know why someone may disagree with their viewpoint or how this could further highlight the discussion at hand.

Basically it annoys me when people complain about games having repetition or doing the same thing over and over again. I am yet to see any game or any genre really change the way that they do things, because well, then it wouldn't be in the same genre and the game wouldn't be what fans of the game want to play. Is kind of like asking a shooter to having racing in it (or "Asking 'insert game here' to be more like 'insert game here'. I am all for innovation if it doesn't completely override the old, and I do enjoy some of the more recent systems which tried something different (Valkyria Chronicles comes to mind). Also until you can come up with a way to try and innovate the rpg battle system, or the systems in place in any game genre then I don't know what you are complaining about.
Perhaps the key argument here is that the RPG genre itself is rather definitive in that the mechanics is either one or the other but never both. With the original point being that more emphasis seems to be placed on the graphics where instead it could have been used to provide alternating for users play styles, further customisation in terms of characters, further linear impact with the storyline instead of bad choice = bad text and lets never speak of it again. This could be deemed innovation within the genre by creating a sphere instead of 2D real time (jumping, tunneling and such, shrouding any enemies your playable character passes ala humans blind spot or etc) in effect humanising the battles into an actual battle instead of a menu or button-a-thon.

And yes I do agree with the "if it aint broke dont fix it". I would much rather developers create a new thing entirely instead of trying to add something to another thing. Why not have both in existence at the same time?
Technically, the system was always broken to begin with since it created its own laws that it didn't adhere to. FF shifted from upfront straight up ATB to pseudo ATB, random to placed encounters, static to destructive environments and so on so forth. These have largely been aesthetic changes though, you have never been playing the RPG and more viewing the RPG from which ever top down camera angle used and a confined expanse with 100% visibility regardless of limitations. (the afore mentioned human bug for human characters having eyes in the back of their heads.)

Fantasy works work because they trick the reader or player into immersing themselves in their world and associating with their characters, FF has never worked on an immersible level because everything that happened was always happening by association and never because you did not see, you did not know but always because you did not find item X to put on place Y and etc. There is still much refinement to be had in the series.

Leona Lewis "My Hands" will be the theme song for the English (US/Euro) release of the game.

Here is a preview from her latest album Echo.

The Japanese release of Final Fantasy XIII will feature the theme song "君がいるから, Kimi ga Irukara" (Because You're Here) sung by Sayuri Sugawara.

UPDATE:

Ubisoft has confirmed today that the Australian and NZ release date will also be 9 March 2010.

While I'm not a fan, I'm happy for those guys looking forward to this, as it's probably the smallest gap between Japanese and Aus releases for a cannonical FF... ever.

Why Ubisoft? Do they have the distributor licence in Oz or something?

No idea, but on IGN, it was Square Enix that has confirmed the date.

Within 3 months of the Japanese release, and the same day as the US. Never thought I'd see the day.

Awesome stuff. Unless the game is a flop (unlikely), or the 360 version has some extra stuff, I'll be picking this up on the PS3 due to BluRay.

I have been quite disappointed with the last ff game but this better be good or I'll rage quit on ff and I am DEAD serious, Square Enix!!! Okay, I might just be over-the-top but I never had any great ff experience after FF10.

I'm getting this on the 360 and couldn't care less if it's inferior, superior or not, you never know, it might happen to be EXACTLY the same as a PS3 (yeah, come-on, be surprised icon_razz.gif). As long as I GOT THE GAME, WHEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! . I love you Square Enix!

Day 1 for me.

Final Fantasy 12 was the biggest disappointment in gaming history. The last decent FF was 10, and the last real FF was 9. Hopefully 13 will be great because i have almost given up on the FF series ever been good again.

As for the Leona Lewis song been the theme song for the NA/EU version...i dont mind really. I doubt one song is going to ruin the whole game, even though its meant to play during a key scene in the game...

As extreme as that sounds I've contemplated the idea of adding FF to my list of neutral games if this one sucks. I love my jrpgs but the more westernised FF is becoming (female 'pop' theme track, US PR narrated ads, etc) along with no Nobuo Uematsu and the mulitplatform aspect .....the less I really care. Gone are the days where I was soooo keen for the next installment that I would read up everything about it.... and with so many other innovative rpgs coming out (or are already out) I no longer see FF as kings of the genre.

These people need to reinvent the series instead of building upon a system that has been stale for quite a while, sure it has extra 'faff' but it seriously needs an overhaul, lets get some realtime happening on this ****.
Clearly you didn't play XII.

How do you define a "real" Final Fantsy game. I loved X, probably in my top 3 FF games. Just because it isn't your favorite, doesnt mean that it is does not count or whatever...

I find it amazing how in the western world, the most popular Final Fantasy is VII. I don't think anyone could argue that point. In Japan the most popular is X. I think it must have to do with the story having alot my characterization than VII. It is really wierd though how lots of westerners don't like X. They always give it **** for the voice acting which was fairly good for a game that long ago, and and always use the laughing scene out of context to give it ****.

BTW that leona loius song is going to be wierd. I have a friend who runs a FF fansite in erope and he says that the Japanese theme has lots of different version throughout the game in key moments.

If we have a song just for the opening and keep all the other ones it will be pretty dumb.

I never said it doesnt count...

Personally while playing FFX, i never felt like it was Final Fantasy. I kinda missed flying my own Airship around the world map myself, but most of all i felt FFX was when the series started becoming more "Western".

BUt as I said before, FFX is the "best" Final Fantasy in Japan. Every time there is a poll or a vote anywhere in Japan, FFX always comes out on top.

And then in the western world, that title goes to FF7 for whatever reason. You would think that if FFX was more westernised the US/Europe would have liked it more and they would have liked 7 less.

The Western world doesnt want Westernized JRPGs. Just because a game has more Western aspects, doesnt mean it will be more successful in the western world then its Japanese counterparts.

It all comes down to personal likes and dislikes. icon_smile.gif

It's also important to note that Final Fantasy VII would have been many people's first FF game, as it's the one which propelled the series into the mainstream. That could be responsible for its massive popularity.

Personally, my favourite is Final Fantasy X, and I hope Final Fantasy XIII is able to dethrone it.

I would agree that FFX was the best, if not for the god damned evil Chocobo race that was basically required to complete the game. (If you focused on Tidus, like I did).

I couldn't open Sin's mouth until I got Tidus' ultimate weapon, and it drove me insane trying to score 0.0 in that race.

I still shudder to think about it, and can't replay the game for the nightmare that I know awaits me.

I do hope however that they bring back the movie theatre from X, I loved being able to re-watch the pre-rendered cut scenes.

Wow, there's a lot of back and forth on the subject about which is the better FF. I love FFs, but seriously, they are becoming long in the tooth and always seem same-same. That said, I got high hopes for FF13

But Nobuo left Square Enix like, 5 years ago didn't he?

Funnily enough I loved FFXII - The plot was far more intriguing than any other FF I played (until it sorta fell away at the end) and the more modern battle system was ace, but then again I've always had a preference for wrpgs (<3 Bioware).
