Reward for playing Uncharted 1 & 2

PS3 News | Virtual moolah for you.
According to the Official PlayStation blog, gamers who play Uncharted 2 and who also have a completed Uncharted file on the hard-drive will be rewarded with $100,000 to use in the sequel's in-game store.

Lead Game Designer at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, said “If you have a saved game of a completed playthrough of Uncharted 1 then you get $100,000 to spend in the store for Uncharted 2. We didn’t go with the platinum because we wanted to reward more players.”

This is a great move. We can’t remember this happening too many times before – we can think of the Ratchet and Clank series and the new Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein 3D remake offering similar rewards, but it certainly isn’t common. And that’s if the game doesn’t already reward you enough with dripping awesomeness: it’s certainly a game of the year contender.

We'll try and feel sorry for those of you who have played and finished the original game but deleted the file because you wanted to make space for all of your totally legally-downloaded television shows and music. Boo hoo.

Great feature!

More games should do this and stuff where you are rewarded with wallpapers/themes etc.

Woh, awesome move. Wonder what they got up there for sale icon_smile.gif

It's a pretty good reward, and I've spent some of mine to unlock a few bonus behind the scenes movies and concept art. I'm saving most of it though for unlocking other stuff. Only a few things are available to buy at the begining, and all the locked stuff doesn't hint what price it will be when it becomes available.

I love it when games do this. I never ended up playing Suikoden 2-5, but if I did, I would have looked forward to seeing references made to my characters from the first game, and the potential stats bonuses on characters that feature in multiple games.

Did anybody ever have Psycho Mantis recognise any Konami save games when playing Metal Gear Solid? That was a fun idea ("You like Castlevania, don't you?").

oh thats fantastic......if my ps3 didnt die and i didnt lose all my save game data including uncharted save file.

It's really awesome in the game, too. You go to the store in the menu and press Square to get "Drake's Fortune". I thought that was really clever. And $100,000 is enough to buy every behind the scenes feature and most of the concept art galleries. I earned $405,000 on my first Normal playthrough, but it'll take a few playthroughs to unlock everything.

I believe the PS2 Gran Turismo games did this, too. Having a GT3 save would get you something in GT Concept, and a GT Concept save would get you something in GT4 (can't remember what, though).

yeh i think it was like a 1million credit from gt3 to gt4 or maybe less, its just what i first thought of when you said that lol but i do remember getting the reward for playing both.

^ iirc the GT games just gave you more starting credits at the start of the game...

EDIT: bah, he's too fast

How about those of us who completed it, when it came out on day 1 and our PS3 DIED recently without backing up gamesaves!?!?!?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.

Might have to play Ratchet and Clank, AGAIN, in case, as well.

BOOOOOOOOOOOH to my breaking PS3. Works now though, no saves............ argh.

Yeah, Jason, that was a mildly harsh concluding statement. icon_wink.gif

I actually cleared out my save games because so many PS3 games insist on copying gigabytes of game data on to the HDD for you to even be able to play them. On the smaller 40Gb drive, I ran out of space multiple times and out of frustration one day deleted everything.

I've now upgraded to a much bigger HDD - but still, those games that insist on copying themselves to the HDD if you want to play them - not happy about that.

Well that was a silly thing to do, the game save files are independent from the installation files.

Weeell, you can always take a game save of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune off one of the many sites that hosts saves (such as GameFAQs). That's the disadvantage to having access to the digital save files, unlike reading it right off the memory card.

Finished this game at 2am yesterday. Great game!

Conditions of entry for this is you must live in the US! The European playstation blog makes no mention of this competition!

Edit: Sorry got ahead of myself and didn't read the article. Official playstation blog has a comp where you can win the fortune hunter edition. I just read this and got confused. Please ignore previous comment. We are eligible for the reward as stated.

Cheers

As much as I love MGS and my PS3 I did lol at the comments about MGS4: "So... I see you love no games" etc.

I just finished Uncharted 2 and *have* completed saves for 1 on my hard disk and I did not get this money...

Nice additional reward for finishing the 1st game - which is excellent.

Agree about wallpapers / themes being part of a rewards system as well....maybe when you complete the game.

Interesting to see how many players actually finish games?

@ Peveus - have you actually finished the 1st game?

mine isn't recognising my Drake's Fortune saves. searches and comes back with Can't Find Drake's Fortune Trophies (or something like that).

and yes, i've finished it on normal, so have the "Charted" gold trophy.

meh, the only things i'm really interested in are the BTS vids, and the concept galleries, and i've already unlocked all the vids, and several of the galleries (all that are available to me at present), and have money leftover for the rest anyway.
