watched the latest gametrailers tv episode on heavy rain - this game looks absolutely fantastic-

although I doubt the amount of "gameplay" that we will get out of it ...

It looks nice in some area's but in most looks crap

After watching the Gametrailers TV Episode on this, I'm must admit I'm really intrigued by this game. The concept and what they're trying to achieve sounds quite interesting, 4 different perspectives from different characters etc.

For me the graphics serve it's purpose in putting the player in what they hope to be an atmospheric game. The story telling, the world and atmosphere are more of a selling point for me than just graphics.

Indigo Prophecy (the last game they did) was quite an awesome game so I would expect more of the same quality if not better.

Laughable comment right there.

I think the gameplay sounds crap(ish) with all of the quicktime events but to call the graphics crap is just so funny.

When the dude goes inside he is wearing sunglasses, but when he goes outside, they're gone.

Wouldn't that completely screw up your eyes?

Game looks tasty.

The graphics aren't crap, but they're nowhere near the bullshit uncanny valley hype it's gotten.

I'm still not sold on Heavy Rain. The premise is intriguing but Quantic Dream have promised a game like this twice already and slipped up both times. Third times the charm?

I wouldn't go so far as to say the graphics are crap but they certainly aren't brilliant and I do agree that the character models are looking fairly ugly, and that dudes sunglasses look ugly as hell.

Like Ciel stated though the graphics serve their purpose.

Crap graphics? Maybe from those screenshots, but watch this new trailer...

Probably amongst the best graphics I have seen in a game.

Some of the best graphics i have ever seen. The true power of the Playstation 3 is really starting to come to fruition.

Is there something wrong with me if all I got from that video is that they are using horrible lighting effects in the close ups?

EDIT: Watched it again to make sure of my opinion and it just made it that much stronger. The lighting effects and character model of the woman during the close up in that trailer are just ugly. Her face is like oddly shaped and the lights make her face look like she's made of metal/plastic/glass or some other refelective material. Apart from that the graphics were indeed fairly good, far from the PS3's best though.

I agree that the model of the female character (just the face, not the body) is a little off, but no way are the graphics crap. As for her face looking a bit reflective, maybe she's sweaty?

Something I've read and totally agree with, is the what makes that club scene so impressive is not the graphics, but all the individual and seperate movements by all NPC in the club. No repetition, it looks very natural, just like in a real club, everyone's getting their own groove on icon_wink.gif

^ Dead on. Heavy Rain looks damned good - not through force of high-poly models and detailed textures, but because of the intricacy and fluidity of the animations.

I can't imagine how much time and effort was spent getting all the mo-cap for that done.

In regards to the faces looking a bit dead - in a G4TV video interview this week, David Cage (writer/director of Heavy Rain) said the game is currently in an alpha build, with all the levels finished in terms of being able to play the game from start to finish. He said that they will now start polishing the game, which I assume means implementing the facial animation technology they showed off last year:

Clearly they have the ability to start mapping movements of the eyes, something this alpha build heavily lacks.

Ah that really does make it sound a hell of a lot better. Seriously if they make the faces better looking than I will rebuke everything I said and will indeed say it is the best looking PS3 game.

i THINK THE GRAPHIS LOOK GREAT. THEY LOOK REAL.

I doublt this game is in an Alpha state, I remember hearing about it prior to the PS3 release! The graphics are alright, I guess, but nothing overly special; RE5 looks better (they surprised me)!

I know we only got these images to go by, but I really don't give a crap whether the graphics are awesome or mediocre. FAHRENHEIT is one of my all-time fave games (from the same developer), for its' appeal was a thoughtful script with unique gameplay elements and a moody atmosphere. I'm anticipating the same originality from HEAVY RAIN! icon_smile.gif

Sorry people i just started playing gears of war 2 , and if you think these graphics are amazing... :/

Im sorry to say but you have been mislead, The graphics are ok 50% but if you look beyond you will notice the graphics arent that great.

compared to gow2 i still stand by my judgement.
Looks like the matrix to me lol.

While I wouldn't go as far as saying the worst graphics ever, they are pretty bad. What a crushing disappointment. Heavy Rain has been one of the few games that looked like it may convince me to pick up a PS3. And while I won't base my decision solely on the graphics, it's not looking very promising. icon_sad.gif I mean come on. All these claims about the uncanny valley and this is what they give us... this?! Maybe I wouldn't be so critical of the game if they hadn't promised so much. But they did promise a hell of a lot. They repeatedly promised a hell of a lot. And from what I can see they are not even close to delivering. And if the gameplay is based around shallow quicktime events you had better have one f'ing brilliant story to get me even mildly interested again. Bah, damn companies and their bull**** marketing claims.

I will reserve my judgment till the game is released but the story is looking very promising to me.

The game is still on my radar and im paitently waiting for its release.

Archergrave comparing those 2 games as you have done is a sily assumption as one has been completed and released awhile ago and the other is a work in progress.

Well it is raining.

Heavily.

I'm still not really sure why this title is so hyped it certainly looks interesting though. The models are a bit rough although but the animation makes up for it though, very smooth.

From those screenshots I saw the other day (i.e. the **** ones), I think there might be real danger of this getting banned and not released in Australia.

After all the Heavy Rain stuff I'd seen from the prototype demonstrations, these screenshots are the first time I've thought "oh, it looks like any other game".

These screens are a bit disappointing, but given the amazing quality of the prototype stuff, I imagine that this will get polished a lot before release. ..and even if it doesn't, if it's anything like Fahrenheit, a screenshot on a website can't possibly do any justice to how the game actually "feels" to play.

I still have a lot of faith in this one, but like LeonJ, I'm worried that it wont pass our MA15 ratings limit..

Graphics are good, I'm looking forward to the gameplay, thou It only really clocks in at 10hrs and with 4 characters i'm not sure how indepth we'll get with each one.
